Operators license blues

Hello people, I am a 35 year old newly qualified class 2 driver - trying to start out on my own. Have been looking in to previous threads on this site and got loads of great info, but, to get straight to the point - I would like to be up and running by about Feb or Mar, a relative has given me some valuable advice on specialist haulage that he has made a success of and is confident he can help me find work. The thing is I am in the process of applying for my Op license and I dont have any Cpc qualification, is there any way (legally) around this? Can I use someone else with a Cpc to assist me or can I work under someone elses Op license? I would greatly appreciate any advice and hope this is my first of many postings. Cheers.

Yes.

No.

If you can find a CPC holder to act as your transport manager you will have to write up a contract with him / her saying you will employ him / her for , say , 5 or 6 hours a week. But as its an extra cost you could do without… so, study for your own CPC. I did a home study pack off Graham Lewsey - 01993 843967. You should get it for around £85 to £90 and the same again for the international CPC home study pack. Don’t get ripped off by some of the companies charging hundreds. Does your fitter who is going to do your 6 weekly inspections have his / her CPC?? worth a thought!

Totally agree with Dozer, also if you get your own CPC you will have a better understanding of the business you are in.

Good Luck Anyway!!

Many thanks for the replies , especialy dozer and n2n, I am not entirely sure what the cpc involves but there is no doubt that although I have been driving 7.5 t for the last 4 years I still have masses to learn.Have seen some threads saying that this site isn’t what it used to be, but I cant praise it enough. Thanks again.

AS REGARDS the CPC try looking at books from DAVID KOGAN

THESE will help youwith information also NYNEHEAD bookshop

should also be able to supply books as well,

TALK also with peole who have taken the test so that you get

an idea how the learning and test runs and weither it is easy or hard

AND KEEP on asking questions as then you cangather information.

all the best,

pauly mac this site as you said yourself is A1, and those

who wish to belittle US, are envious of a site that yes is

not perfect as any one will say themselves BUT AND THIS

is what counts it does give 110%,weither that be from its

owners or US the members of this site, The problem is

that YOU will never get ever one to agree ,so what that

is normal as we are not machines, and we will just let

the envious look one as TRUCKNET UK carrys on.
