Operating Centre Costs

How much do you pay for an operating centre?

I’m a new owner driver an don’t have the luxry of a friend in the trade and have been quoted £50 per week for parking one tractor unit and trailer.

I know the price will vary with location, I am just near Bicester, Oxon, but just wanted to get a feel of what the going rate is.

The place which has quoted this price, the first one who said they will do it for me, has the benefit of already being an existing operating centre and has service facilities on-site.

And, on the topic, what’s the going rate for a 6 weekly service?

Your thoughts would be appreciated,

Paul

Blimey! thats a bit steep! I pay £35.00 per Unit & Trailer. Thats a secure site too!

Oh, just read the rest of your question, i pay about £60 per inspection.

twenty quid for my six wheeler as for the inpections do you mean just the check or an average cost of the maintainence? i pay about fifty quid or so for the check but always have the work done there and then which means the bill could be anything,i’ve had a £860 before now
i’d shop around abit most if not all commercial garages will provide parking if your gona use them for your maintainence contract.

Bet I’m the cheapest at £30/month parking for unit+trailer in a secure site (gates locked at night and owners live beside gates) 5 mins max from where I live :exclamation:  :sunglasses:

Parking: £100 pcm for my rigid, plus £25 for a 6.4m trailer.

Inspections are £45. I trust my maintenance firm to do whatever is necessary — never had the need to query a bill.

I suppose it’s all according to where you are, I pay £2600 per annum which is secure and patrolled for a tractor and trailer. As for my safety checks I have a full R & M contract so I cannot answer.

I have been quoted as little as £30 per week but that was for a bit of hard standing with no security.

I’m beginning to feel lucky. It makes a change in this business  We pay £40 a month for a secure site in East Yorks 2 miles from our house - and its been the same for 16 years! I hope they’re not reading this…

my understanding is,for use as an operating center the yards got to be secure and of a size big enough so you can drive in,drive out.

Taken from a CPC Training manual:

The operating centre must be suitable for the applicants vehicles, bearing in mind such factors as its size, location & means of access. The traffic commisioner is unlikely to grant any application which does not sufficent off street parking for all vehicles and trailers.

So it seems theres no hard and fast rules, it all depends on the TC.
