I don’t think the poor old towpath was designed for that much weight and maybe the water had undercut the bank a bit.

I drove my truck up that very towpath, to that very job about 3 weeks ago…
He didn’t actually drive up the main towpath in the crane, he used a newly made temporary track through a farm, but didn’t get the swing around properly…
Looks like they will drain the canal, excavate around the crane, tip the crane back on its wheels, then dig a ramp up behind it and winch it out…
I like the bit where it says-
“Workers in fluorescent jackets could be seen at the site today, where the crane was on its roof under the water, with its wheels in the air.”
That’s good then ! Health & safety comes first, make sure you’ve got you Flourescent Jacket on, or something Terrible will happen.
