Ooof that's going to be expensive

Tipper driver with the bin up, moves bridge 2 metres. Overpass to be demolished.

ooh, i bet theres a few insurance underwriters running to that bridge and jumping off it… :open_mouth:

I may sound stupid here BUT…

doesn’t an alarm sound in the cab if the back isn’t down? It did on the tipper I drive a while back

If he wasn’t then his teeth marks will be in the steering wheel [emoji1787]

That’s a pretty ■■■■■■■■ bridge! Give the bloke a pat on the back, for drawing attention to the engineer’s massive stuff up.

Here maybe but in the US a lot of construction vehicles are routinely 20+ years old, especially owner operators and they’re not blanketed by H&S like we are, although in this case it probably would have been a good idea .

Overpass to be demolished.

Whaaaaaat? Noooo! Can’t you just hit it from the other side and it will fit back in its place?

I drove tippers for 20+ years and never had one with an alarm, and I never heard of any that did have them fitted.

My mate put two grooves in the first bridge on the M62 after leaving the M1 when they were constructing it, he was tipping on the paver just before the bridge and the gang decided to go for their snap when he was half empty. He nodded off and woke up with a start when the paver fired up and started pushing him and the ram tops put two nice tracks in the bridge which are still there today and bent both rams so had to come back to the quarry with the body raised!

Pete.

My former chariot, a 2011 reg dual-purpose Scania with hiab plus roro/tipping body, didn’t have any alarms for crane, body or sheeting system: you could have easily cruised down the motorway with the crane out to the side, legs extended, skip up in the air, and best of all a sheeting system on a big vertical boom arm which extended about 8 metres above ground level - take that 16’6" clearance bridge
(one guy did do the latter once by accident…)
