One Hour Rule

Where? I have yet to have the Police turn up to a breakdown. Even one of our Sussex drivers who brought a wagon into the Manchester depot with the mid axle chained up didn’t have an ■■■■■■.

its not the drivers problem its down to recovery to pull there fingers out and quicken the pace ive been sat on the hard shoulder for 2/3 hrs before and its no fun with wagons tearing past at 56 and if you think im sitting on the grass in the rain your wrong.

I see your point, and No its not the drivers fault,

I know some recovery companies are slow as hell, but others are flat out, :frowning:

I’m sure you can imagine the price of a heavy recovery truck, it can be twice the price of a unit and trailer, some more, so a recovery company likes to keep them busy, and I mean BUSY!!! :open_mouth:

So maybe a 50:50 blame

I find tyre comapnies the worst, I often go to breakdowns do my bit and are still waitng for the tyre men to come :frowning:

I don’t know if this is something many of you good people are aware of, but Hertfordshire police now give you one hour to get mobile again if you breakdown on the M1, after one hour they send out their own recovery people.

I had a puncture on my trailer last week, and ended up between gate 8 and 9. Had to be the tyre I had put on 3 weeks ago.

Well I had been talking on the phone for about half an hour and I had no idea whether I had passed gate 9 so I thought I had better walk down to the next emergency phone to get my exact location so that the tyre company could find me.

Having established my position the girl says “ you are aware of our 1 hour rule” and the she said that I had one hour to get mobile.
Exactly one hour later she phoned me up and says I see you are still there, and after I explained that the tyre fitter had replaced the tyre and he was putting air into it she said that was O.K.

I was very lucky that the tyre fitters were on the ball, because the fitter explained to me that when they do come out with the wrecker the just chain your axle up and drag you off.
What sort of money are we talking about here ■■?

I’ll tell you this, next time I am on that M1 I will be looking much more closely at my temp gauge and air gauges etc.
By the way the tyre fitter said that once you are over the border into Beds then youy can sit on the hard shoulder for hours and no one bothers you and the Police are much more helpful.

Just hope this helps someone to save a very expensive tow in.

Cheers Tony

I wouldn’t worry about it. If they try to chain up the axle and you are loaded REFUSE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE as it is overweight on the other axles and therefore illegal to move.

wouldnt apply as you would be under police ■■■■■■

You can either drive it for them and pay the bill or let them give it a total lift which i,m sure would be a lot more expensive.

It,s a good idea as it causes congestion people broke down on the hard shoulder.

Surely your supposed to be driving on the motorway not on the hard shoulder

(yes, I know the hard shoulder will be used on the M42 soon, so don’t even say it! )

From the breakdowns I attend on the motorway I have not noticed much congestion as my backside is two foot from wagons thundering past ! :open_mouth:

Well what are you doing standing in the middle of lane 1 for then  , coz I allus move over to lane 2 if I see folks working in the hard shoulder. In fact I even got a wave of thanks from a recovery bloke last week for moving over to lane 2 for him

You are one of the VERY VERY Few then Rob K

I usually get a blast of air horns when trying to open the drivers door with the cab tilted

And I always thank drivers for moving over when I can see they have made the effort!

Its not the breakdown that causes the congestion its the sphincters who have never seen a vehicle on the hard shoulder ( tends to be the place you can get to when something goes wrong:)).

The Rubberneckers one of many reasons for congestion on the roads in this country, "Oh look at that2 !!! .

It doesnt matter if some ■■■■■■ is dead or not if you are on the hard shoulder whether you are having a ■■■■ or broke down people will slow down just to gawp at it.
