did anyone else see the car traveling north on the S/B hard shoulder towards Charnock services this morning just after 2 am ■■? … he was certainly motoring… I rang 999 as soon as he passed me about one and a half miles before the services… but as i was limited to 52mph I couldn’t keep track of him for long, so don’t know if he went into the services or off at the Leyland junction. But by the time I got past the services the matrix signs were on and two patrol cars were heading south with blues on… very quick response… well done smokey… just hope they caught the idiot in the services maybe with the aid of CCTV or even the ANPR cameras recording the vehicle entering from the wrong end. That’s twice this year I’ve seen this happen.
I rang my wife to say there was a car going the wrong way down the motorway.
“one” she said “there’s hundreds”
I didn’t see that but I did see the Renault Clio driver driving down the hard shoulder of the m6 in brum around 6ish. Shame the managed bit of motorway didn’t show the hard shoulder as open but I’m sure he is a great driver in his own mind

I’ve lost count of the number of vehicles I’ve seen using the hard shoulder of managed motorways when they’re not legally open for use, whilst it’s mostly car drivers I’m sorry to say I have also seen one or two lorries driving on the hard shoulder when it’s not open for business
i thought it was a police test as the sighns started at charnock going southbound until the wrightington turn off . and they also started northbound on the bridge until the wrightington turnoff. all i gotta say is we all know what happened to the boy who cried fox !

Obviously the outcome of any collision with this type of incident could be horrendous, because we often get people giving the wrong c/way, for this proceedure says that signals should be set on both c/ways until the c/way affected is confirmed, then the unaffected c/way’s signals would be cleared.
Certain other incidents are set similarly (not for 20’s though) ie. Child pedestrians, reports of pedestrians crossing over the motorway, large animals loose on the motorway
