good doe’snt bother me at all. the last time i was stopped was about 7 years ago.
the good thing is they will take credit cards, it does not bother me as long as it is a level playing field and not what i have seen on tv where foreign trucks get only a tittle of the wrist then told to carry on

Are you sure this is true
Where did you read this?
Yes its true on the spot fines will be introduced later this year they will range from £30- £120 depending on the nature and severity of the offence. On the spot fines will be issued for offences such as drivers hours, overloading, vehicle defects such as lights, tyres and brakes . Points can also be added to your licence

Those figures are for single offences the largest is far higher and you can get multiples, or elect for court.
to answer an earlier post it certainly does include the foreign drivers who will have to pay a deposit, there vehicle will be immobilised until they do so as well.

SPOT ON - it is to try and redress the balance - we shall see…
i was pulled in deeside cheshire on friday and got speaking to the lads
and they said its should be in place in 4 months and that it
will be non uk companys that will be fined
The on the spot fines will be for foreigners who have no UK address. UK drivers can still take the 28 day FPN. Our company sent us a memo telling us that “Police and VOSA will soon be able to issue on the spot fines for defects that should have been picked up on preshift walkround vehicle checks so make sure you do your checks.”
Because obviously up until now we’ve just been not bothering to do them and the police/VOSA have been powerless to punish us.

yes it was in a magazine that my boss had on his table cos i asked him for the free cd that came with it which was from vossa drivers daily walkaround checks i will get more details on monday when i go back to work
If you pay with your VISA on the road side is the remote terminal linked to the wheel tappers personal account
I believe this is part of the radical changes being introduced by the government to try and redress the balance between UK and Non UK transport companies.
I wrote to my MP early last year complaining about the way UK companies were being penalised through the current system, i.e dearer fuel, higher taxes, lack of facilities etc etc etc
The reply I got back made interesting reading, in total I received about 8 replies from different departments explaining what the government was planning, in the interests of uk businesses.
They quoted the £20 million that was being spent on tightening enforcement, opening roadside check sites on a 24 hr basis to combat foriegn trucks that were running illegally and also introducing 24 hr courts for prosecuting drivers of said vehicles, I’m sure that it was March this year when it was planned to start.
Letters were also received from the 3 local councils in this area pointing out that they were planning to develop a truck parking area, a letter was also recieved from Faber Maunsell who handle the transport planning for the 3 councils, explaining what they were doing in a bid to improve things in the North East.
It may sound like a waste of time, but a simple email to your local MP can and does get results even though some of them are not enough.
I have to give Patricia Hodgson 10 out of 10 for her response to my email
Although UK hauliers can opt for on the spot fines, they are there to ensure that foriegn drivers pay the fines before leaving the UK never to be seen again as the truck will be impounded until payment is received in full.
It’s not before time in my opinion.
or maybe pay with your VOSA card
i only read during the week they are starting in april and that was in a paper.

We’re on Red Alert ! If they smell us they stop us !! But if you mean this…
roadtransport.com/Articles/2 … cence.html
I can tell you that no drivers have been convicted of anything (yet !), and no trucks are off the road (yet!). Actually tell a lie, three guys have just been made redundant and their trucks are going back. Also roughly 25 drivers where given a months suspension of HGV licence which has now been recinded pending their court cases next month. When it may turn out that some of the alleged offences have timed out, who knows ?!! Looks like the vehicle suspension has been put off a month, then it’ll be nearly 60 drivers trying to drive forty odd trucks, gonna be fun
I wont be carrying any cash with me though to cough up to VOSA though, if it aint spot on it don;t go out as we have to drive past them sometimes a few times a day.
you took your time mike… i was waiting for a bite all weekend.

I was away for the weekend. Valentines night we stayed over in LLangollen, surrounded in every pub by Welsh guys in Rugby teeshirts, real romantic !!
Trucks are off the road now too !!
