Spotted a Stobies fella otherday with his weights having a workout in the trailer in an A34 layby & have seen some foreign guys doing pressups & sit ups etc in Belgium services, I try & have a good walk if im parked up for the night ideally an hour or so if im somewhere its posible- ie near a town or some countryside, not a nasty motorway services type, france is often good for this at the aires.
I’ve parked up swum in most lakes & cleaner rivers in Europe, summer only! i don’t do italy & switz much now so less than I used to, but a brisk swim in como or garda or the dordogne the med, etc has been cracking, can be dificult parking however in a 17m long vehicle for an hour or so let alone the night, far easier in the tiny 8m jobbie.
Anyone remember an old Stalone film, he was an arm wrestling trucker, had a pull cable weights set up in the cab, used it whilst driving! Ha
Get hold of a TRX set and you can get a full body workout in almost any where you can sling it. All you would need is a tree branch, lamp post or if you are pulling a curtainsider the bar down the middle the straps are hung from. Takes up no space when not in use and is very versitile. I use one a lot in my current job and it gets results.
Starting tramping at the end of the month, I’m used to getting to the gym 4/5 times a week. So im also interested in how you guys get exercise on the road. I was planning on taking up running possibly? Although the thought of doing laps of a lorry park doesn’t fill me with enthusiasm.
Ginsters in one hand whilst the other’s scratching the arse hanging out of your trousers admittedly isn’t a good look but it beats doing weights at the side of the road looking like a circus left behind.
A pair of trainers or walking shoes dependant on how fast your legs can go,
A kettlebell, 12kg minimum, I use a 16kg, DW have a small size bell in at the moment, dont buy a York, its too bulky IMO.
TRX straps, with a little thought you can use your trailer in various ways.
A sense of adventure, press ups can be done anywhere, you can walk/run anywhere,
Ok so you may think you look like an absolute plum doing exercises in a layby but your being alot healthier than the folk who are laughing at you
I find it surprising what you can find near the motorway network to be honest. I stopped at woodall some time ago and as soon as you walk out the back of the services you’re into countryside so plently of walking and running. Nice little village with a reservoir nearby, on a side note also good pub food near there. Can’t remember the name of the pub but I think harthill was the village
I do mine in the trailer when getting tipped. I use the restraining bars, in the lower level for press ups & tricep dips, upper one for pull ups, heaviest one for bicep curls. I cycle in to work & back keeping the bike in the cab, also use it for a spin when I night out.
