On call type work, pay/on duty?

recently a local recovery/scrap/parts yard had an ad for a job for a recovery/pickup driver. The ad said it would be regular 5 to 6 days work and rotating with a couple of other drivers on call at night for breakdown recovery.

How does it usually work, would you get a set pay for being on call over night, and then if you do have to go out an actual hourly rate, or just paid if you go out, not if you’re sat waiting for the phone to go off?

just wondering what the norm is for these types of jobs.

yes I could ring the firm up and ask what they do, but it’s a smallish local place so probably nothing like a normal outfit, and I’m happy where I am

for the moment

I would think it’ll be like the tyre boys. They only get paid per call but as recovery can take forever its probably a base call out for the 1st 2 hrs then #per hour on the job as it depends how far you have to go.
Some tyre boys are on £50 a call but they can be on the go all night and still have to turn in in the morning.
