All these people bothering me with their annoying phone calls and texts over all these years were right! I should listen to them.
But, seriously. I just got a letter from my bank, first of its kind. It’s called “annual review of Optional Payment Protection Insurance on your Credit Card”. OPTIONAL? They told me that it was compulsory and now after all these years…
I was always thinking that these PPI claims was just some kind of scam, but it seems I might be entitled to it after all. I am aware that I won’t get rich on that, but if I paid few hundred to my bank without need, I would be happy to have it back. I know I should not be using this claim management folks, I found a step by step guide on moneysupermarket, but I wonder if any of you went ahead with claiming it back and could share some experience?
I was refunded nearly 12 grand. It’s not a scam but there are firms out there who will take a huge percentage of this and any further claim for the sake of writing a letter which you can write yourself or go to moneysavingexpert.co.uk and download a template. Avoid the firms and do it yourself would be my advice x
How is that you speak about such big sums? Is that because you had it with some big loans, mortages etc? (I paid 270 pounds for it last year) Or is that because they pay it to you with some compensation?

I got a credit card when I was 18 and a student loan. These had PPI and I applied for a refund last year. That’s 14 years on those two alone, then consider mortgage various car and bike loans and credit cards etc. it soon adds up.
I’m totally sent free except a tiny mortgage and I won’t be entering into credit agreements with anyone else. My attitude to credit has changed massively in the May 2 years

Ah, OK, so it’s just as I thought: I can expect what I paid + interest. Still nice couple of hundreds, worth the hassle.

You might be surprised I know I was. I expected a couple grand but they calculate everything you’ve paid since you’ve been with them

They went back to my very 1st loan when I was 18 and it included every product I’d taken out since. It was 3 loans (prob about 20k in total) and a credit card.
The compensation was roughly half the total amout with the rest made up in interest on that amount over X amount of years.
I thought I’d be lucky to get £200 back.
After putting it off for ages thinking I wasn’t entitled to anything I got the best part of £12k back from Lloyds, thanks to the Moneysavingexpert template letters. Easy.
Just to let you know, I expected to get about 1000-1100 and I was made an offer of nearly 1500, so it is worth the hassle. If you are thinking about it - go for it!
