There is a program on BBC1 about alcoholics but they are all middle class and in stressful jobs drinking wine and larger so it does not apply to mature retired lorry drivers who appreciate a fine malt occasionally some of them were drinking 8 to 10 bottles of wine a week and then there is us who struggle to afford 1 bottle of malt a week. Decent aged single malt should be available on prescription,two bottles a week should be enough to keep us old wrinklies and IOM tax exiles in the peak of condition or at least semi-comatosed so we don’t feel all the aches and pains reminiscent with being burnt out and knackered, and the assurance from the GP that we must imbibe the said amount, he the GP should also tell er’ indoors to make sure we take the “medication” regularly and stand by to dash off for a repeat prescription should the occasion arise and to ensure at no time do we become dehydrated.

I think you should lobby your local MP Harry and get your request raised as a matter of urgency at the Prime Ministers question time.Ask him to get an act of parliament for scotch for pensioners to be available on free prescription for life.

Dave it would be far too time consuming to do it for more than one wagon and being that we are all retired I was toying with the idea of running up empty but I will need confirmation from the north east to make sure this is feasible and there is no rush is there? as long as the lorry is back for the summer

In 1957 when I worked for Baxters Road Services on the Quayside in Newcastle this was a regular run, but with an old Albion , Bedford ,Atkis, Thornys, the good old days gone forever, its a good job there is still plenty of whiskey,s about. Larry, when you get to Rutherglen will you stay at the “Sally Bash” on London Road with its “attractions” around the Barralands and BettysBar on the Gallowgate, or will you settle for
the “hut” in Hedleys yard and chase around looking for “Parkies” old flames? That will be a busy night cos he was a randy old goat (RIP) regards Kev.
