Well the missus and me went to Machine Mart in Sheffield today and called back at The Moorlands at Owler Bar (used to be a cafe years ago) and had steak and ale pie plus all the trimmings, it was a carvery, and a nice dessert for just over a tenner! January deal, 2 for £7 and you can go back for seconds plus the dessert, just the bloomin job eh! Will certainly call again, only just had room for my tea tonight.
Pete.

That cafe was quite popular with tipper men Pete, them that had time to stop that is . A lot used to run from Owler Bar through Homesfield into Sheffield but I think there’s a weight limit on that road now.
Me and the better half were thinking about having some lunch at a nice little cafe north of Ramsey near the Point of Ayre but it was persisting down until mid afternoon so we didn’t bother.

Bloody hell lads you must be ready for the over the hill gang!
We had weeks of talking about drinking
whisky, then I’m away having a eye operation, when I was about to leave, this nurse asked me if I wanted a sick note.
I said what do I want with a sick note at comming up to 75 years old.
she replied I thought you was only 55, I bet you was a lad when you was young, I said ask me how I feel! She said how do you feel " With my hands" weigh ho.

OK older members and younger members.Harry doesn’t like sprouts. What other vegetables does anyone not like ? Me I don’t eat parsnip, could eat them, not fond of carrots either.
With you there on not liking parsnips Dave,I like cabbage, especially a mug of hot cabbage water,I swear by it for keeping colds away. Also like carrot and turnip mixed,oh! and broadbeans as well.Cheers Dennis.

I like all the brassicas Dennis, also turnip and swede, prefer runner beans to broad beans also like onion or peas.
Cheers Dave.
Throughout our years in haulage , we were fortunate to be given most types of vegetables straight from the producers .
We knew they were all freshly cultivated, and had a genuine , fresh taste.
Nowadays , some of the sprayed artifical fertilizers reduce the natural flavours.
I ll eat nearly all vegetables , but Mushy Peas - a big NO ! It reminds me of the inside of a bullock
s gut at a
slaughterhouse . Don`t let me put others off from eating mushy peas , though ,
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
Love mushy peas (as long as they are drained propperly) like brussels and carrots, cabbage, broccoli, parsnips etc. Not keen on garden peas or beans though. Turnip and swede are good as well, getting peckish now!
Pete.
hiya,
Parsnips yuk, carrots and turnips yes if mashed together, beans of any kind no thank you peas yes but only processed from a can, onions love em, spring cabbage is my only brassica, I do prefer my veg in salad form love tom’s, peppers, cold new potato’s,a little lettuce, a little beetroot fresh cooked, but unfortunately my intake is now so small (a sparrow can eat more than me) if I dine away from home the establishment I choose must be prepared to fabricate for me a child’s portion at a child’s portion price or I leave and seek sustanance elswhere I hate being served a huge dustbin lid sized plate of scran and leaving two thirds of it and of course I’d have payed the adult price for it.
thanks harry long retired.
A lot of places now serve child or 1/2 portion at a reduced rate the 1’s that dont tend to be the eat as much as you like

And straight out of the fields if you were on nights in the Lincs and Norfolk area…
I remember picking mushrooms out of a field just below Scotch Corner early in a morning after a changeover further up,one of the best mushroom fields I’ve known, late Sept/Oct time, bags full of 'em.
