A Mondeo or a Vauxhall Insignia is what I would be driving Pete, if I still had a car. Had several 2 litre injection Vauxhalls before I switched to vans which made life easier. One of my Brother-in–laws fancied a Jag XKR, but bought himself a new supercharged Morgan instead to play with.
Cheers Dave.
If you get a newish Mondeo Dave you will have your Jaguar in everything but name, it will just have a Ford badge instead of a Cheshire Cat grinning at you! Oh, and pay more for your spares:wink:
we who live up in the hills can’t afford those swish motors , i have to make do with a a puny 2.2 turbo diesel for dragging the wobble box , even that is automatic , must be getting old and lazy .

Yes Pete, I realise that a lot of the smaller Jaguar’s have the Mondeo chassis etc from when Ford bought them. Could never understand Ford selling Jaguar and Land Rover, Top selling motors, seemed a strange decision to me.
Cheers Dave.

I have a 2.2 turbo diesel Sprinter weighing 2 ton Dave, it goes as well as the 2.7 turbo diesel 5 cylinder that I have, and does more mpg.
Cheers Dave.

Posh git Dave, I have to tow mine with a 22 year old LDV 400 with a 2.5 non turbo Peugeot diesel engine, 25 mpg solo and 15 mpg towing! I can still manage to change gear myself though.
Dave the Renegade:
Both of my Mercedes Sprinters have automatic/tiptronic gearboxes which work well.
Cheers Dave.
Hiya,
My elderly but low mileage Toyota Corolla (55 reg), has an auto box and I love it,
was a bit apprehensive initially it being the wife’s choice but have grown to love
it and I wouldn’t even consider going “manual” again not very economical but the
little amount of miles I do nowadays it doesn’t really matter and should I do the
occasional “trek” the MPG improves quite a bit with the built in gadgetry on the
dashboard keeping me informed as to my driving, the " Old Girl" has only done a
genuine 43.000 miles and still drives like brand new and (keeping my fingers
crossed) it has only cost me a set of tyres and a battery but an advisory at the
last test did state that it was nearly time to have a new set of front brake pads
fitting which is in hand the pads being bought and the garage appointment made.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hiya,
I remember picking a load of “tinplate” from somewhere in the Midlands and
delivering it to Vickers Armstrong’s factory at Newcastle you know it’s where
they make the battle tanks, I asked my mate who at the time was a worker
at the plant what the metal was used for it being a bit on the light side for
fabricating tank parts out of he told me it was a contract job for the Ford
Motor Co and the “tin” left the factory as doors for the Cortina.
thanks harry, long retired.

There was or still is a chap called John Stainsbury and he had a Roller and he bought his brake pads from T.C.H. for about 8 quid fitted to a Cortina
I walked a Roller, a vibrating one for about a mile from the haulage yard to a site where we were working. Talk about being young and dull.
Cheers Dave.
