just read another thread and orvill is not who i thought , remarkable coincidence though .

Dave, did 2+2 make 5 then? Just had some more blooming snow, just when it was thawing nicely as well. :unamused: Sick of the stuff with all this ‘bitting and bobbing’ every few days, just wish a good 6 footer would come and then be done with it!

Pete.

You old lads got it easy in Derbyshire. When I was a lad, we didn’t have electricity, just a paraffin lamp and a coal fire range to cook on. The crapper was well away from the house and you had to defrost the ■■■■ pot to use it. But we was happy.
Cheers Dave.

If you had emptied the thing after each use it wouldn’t have frozen in the first place Dave! Preventative maintenance and all that…

i was brought up on a farm in the valley behind the winking witch , being a war baby and my parents were on war work my grandparents brought me up until i went to school . we had water from a spring , cooking and hot water from the kitchen range and like dave lit by paraffin lamps . in 1947 we were isolated for 12 weeks until my parents walked from buxton pulling a sledge filled with supplies . gran and grandad had enough after that and moved into buxton . cheers , dave

Good news lads, nothing has dropped off so far. :open_mouth: Attended The Nuclear Medicine dept. at St James Hosp. Leeds yesterday for a bone scan, “i’ll just give you this injection of radioactive tracer Brian :open_mouth: , don’t go near pregnant wimmin or children for a while”. The good news is I’ve still got a pulse this morning. Onward and upward. :sunglasses:

Great news Brian. Pregnant women are easy to avoid - sit upstairs on the bus. And kids- just wear a jmc jnr mask.
Dave - try telling that to the the yougsters of today. Back to the cardboard box at bottom o 't lake. Jim

Paraffin ■■■■ pots and pregnant wimmin, could be the tite of a song.
Cheers Dave.

Only tests I have taken are motorbike at 16,and car at 17. Was old enough to qualify for HGV under Grandfather rights. Passed my TM CPC’s National in 1989, and International 1999.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave, How times have changed in efforts to get better trained drivers and managers over the years and as you . we old ones got where we did without the current regulations which seem to have dumbed down the standards in a lot of cases . Like you I never had any tests at all except for PSV, my Army service training put me right along with common sense I suppose.

You reminded me to look into my archives regarding the TM CPC’s , I remember taking a residential course at a place called High Ercall in Shropshire for them .I also have found that I held the CPC’s in each operating area namely East Mids. Western and South East as the fleet was spread around .these are dated 1977 surely these are not valid today? not that I feel competent in anything these days !.

i had one of those nuclear scans last october , wife says it’s the only way they could find my heart . disappointed though , i didn’t glow in the dark .hoping they don’t find any serious problems with your bone scan brian , fingers crossed , cheers , dave

Hi Toshboy,
The CPC went through a re-registering process about three years ago. If you had a CPC, you had to fill in a form etc. I think this had to be done by 4th December 2011.
High Ercall isn’t to far from here, just under 50 miles, and was a Motec training centre. There was an article in the Commercial Motor stating that further training would be a requirement for Transport Managers eventually. When that happens I shall pack it in. I’m to old to be messing about on courses and exams, that will be me finished.
As you say we managed to do the job without all these regulations, which are mainly EU requirements which doesn’t seem to stop a lot of other member states sending all sorts of cowboy operators into this country to flout the law. Rant over, soapbox parked.
Cheers Dave.

Eureka :stuck_out_tongue: there is a God, Mrs GOM and myself have had a lot of various pieces of bad news recently and today I went for my 3 yearly recall Colonoscopy (Google it, it’s…unpleasant  ) " No problems Brian, we’ll see you in another 3 years" I must admit I was worried so a bit of good news is a huge relief.
Alcohol not allowed in the 2 days leading up to the job, :open_mouth: yesterday was my birthday (76) and i went to the pub at lunchtime and…wait for it…I ordered a pint of orange juice for myself :open_mouth: I felt ashamed. :frowning: Tonight I shall give the Laphroaig a good seeing to. :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad to hear your good news Brian. Enjoy your drink later.
Cheers Dave.

Good to hear a bit of good news Brian.  reading these threads even the problems we hear about doesn’t stop the humour coming through. Regards Kev.

Hi GOM, good to hear some good news, but why wait until tonight for the drink?
