Have you thought of a starlift? You could cut a hole in the seat and stop half-way up ( like a lay-by) and blame the cat. Jim

Hiya,
Dave I personally hope not but there could just be a canny lump of GB go if the
Scottish vote goes in the yes direction, I’m not very politically minded but with
only a taxable population of about two million, “my estimation” it looks a very
good chance that some people North of the Border will be getting some hefty
tax bills in the years to come, I have spoken to several friends who are local to
me but Scottish by birth and they say it’s only the Highlands were the yes’s are
likely to come from the majority of Glaswegians and Edinburghnians actually
think it’s a stupid idea and it can’t work, a case of wait and see I suppose.
thanks harry, long retired.

This might upset some of the other Welsh Members, but I reckon the Welsh Assembly should be scrapped. We don’t get anything in Mid Wales from it. While we are at it, pull out of the EU as well.
Cheers Dave.

Aaah, a bit of common sense at last.

We were talking about old folks homes a while back. Some time ago I decided to have a bit of fun with Mrs GOM and I started sending for (in her name) brochures for some of the local homes. They started coming in the post, she wasn’t too pleased about it, and then, I don’t know how she did it, she found out it was me that had sent for them. She went ballistic :open_mouth: I actually feared for my safety, some (all) the names she called me I thought were harsh and unnecessary. “It was only a bit of fun my love” She’s only small and slight but I thought she was going to kill me.

When did the Common market become the EU btw

As I think IIRC we voyed for the common market for easier trading

I believe that these should be posted on this thread and they are on topic with previous posts

cheers Johnnie

Please my dear, don’t start, passions run very high about this. The EU has been foisted upon us by the back door. We did indeed vote for the European Economic Community (EEC), I voted YES, we have not been given a say about the poxy EU. If we ever do get a voice, I will vote OUT, the sooner the better.

don’t hold your breath brian , by the time that vote happened , if it ever did , you and i will have been pushing the daisies up for a good while . in fact our grandchildren might be lucky to vote .

I voted yes when Edward Heath took us into the EEC,but like GOM I would vote out if we had a referendum. We haven’t gained anything from being a member, other than a load of petty regulations and paid a fortune to get them.
Cheers Dave.

I think you are all wrong  you have got something out of it :exclamation:    A lot of riff raff from all of the poorer countries, using all our welfare money up, putting pressure on our health system. They will drag their feet on giving the vote, for all those MP’s will lose good well paid jobs in europe. :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Now all the inquests and likely outcome of the debacle in Scotland will take precedence over all other wit and wisdom. :unamused:

Hiya,
Back in the very early sixties I was doing a round trip taking in Glasgow tip and load
to the South West area tip and load, for back to the North West usually leaving the
Bristol area on Thursday morning to enable me to get tipped and loaded on Friday
giving me Saturday off and away up “Scotch” again on Sunday, I always stopped at a
little newsagents shop just North of Bristol (a very pretty young assistant worked in
there) with doing this sort of work I acquired a mix of money and usually a Scottish
pound note or two was in my pocket my stop was usually for cigarettes and the Daily
Mirror, both in those days for less than a quid one morning the young lady gave me
change for a fiver thinking the Scottish pound was an English fiver, I did leave the
shop but thinking the young lady might lose her job ( five pounds would have been
more than her wages) so my conscience kicked in and I went back in and explained
that she had made a mistake, Oh’ she said, thank you, but I’ll have to ask my boss if
it’s OK to take “foreign money” from a rear room came this little bearded fellah’ with
his specs perched on the end of his nose and half a black bra on the back of his head
He told the shopgirl it was OK to take the Scottish note but charge me a shilling for
the cost of putting it through his bank. cheeky barsteward.

Folk are still wary in my experience of Scottish money Harry, I have had trouble changing some in local shops and at shows/steam rallies many traders will not touch it. I bet the Scots will take the English notes happily though. The last note I had the Bank changed it for me.

Pete.

Hiya,
It’s not so bad in this area Pete, being not too far from the Scottish Border quite
a bit of their currency comes o’er the border and it’s not unusual to get the odd
note in your change and all the shops /pubs will take them off your hands and
no questions asked we also have the largest shopping centre in Europe on our
doorstep namely the Metro Centre which gets lots of visitors from the Border
Towns on a daily basis they take the “foreign” money without question and in
this day and age surely it should be that way, I wish I had a barrowful of their
paper money I’d spend it as they say up there, nay bother.

My camera person won at bingo in Blackpool a few weeks back, and part of her winnings was a Scottish £20 note. I had a job to persuade her that it was legal tender down here.
Cheers Dave.
