Ah the education hour…everybody is watching Stobarts on the TV.

Hard job for me as dont have a tv

You aren’t missing much Ang,most of the stuff on there is rubbish.

hiya,
Not having a telly now there’s a thing my old Grandad used to live near
the Boot & Shoe on the A6 just South of Lancaster, now he ordered a TV
and when it was delivered they found he only had gas power in his house
he was under the impression the “box” would work from a “Laclontia cell”
as did his radio, ( for those who are too young to know a Laclontia cell is
an acid/lead battery which was charged at a nearby radio shop) one of my
jobs as a little fellah’ was taking flat’s and collecting freshly charged one’s
from the nearby shop, it wasn’t slave labour, they wasn’t heavy and I used
to get well rewarded with Gramp’s homemade treacle toffee, scrumptious.
thanks harry, long retired.

I remember doing that Harry, but they must have been bigger cos I thought they were quite heavy,I got a penny for the bus,but walked & kept the penny, made of glass & filled with acid, health & safety weren’t invented then  regards alan

hiya,
Alan I think they weighed about four pounds and had a proper carrying handle
I was always warned if I dropped it “I was dead”, or words to that effect I didn’t
have far to go the radio “shop” it was just along the road and really just a guy’s
sitting room ■■■ chargeing point/repair workshop and i’d be around 7 or 8, my
Grandad was still using gas for lighting in the early 1960s but did have a couple
of power points so had a “leccy” fire and a telly.

I remember the wireless with the battery and accumulator Harry. We didn’t have electricity in a house until I was s1x years old - January 1954 when we moved into this village, didn’t have a TV until 1958,and then only BBC,couldn’t get ITV here until 1968 when they put another transmitter up at Ridge Hill near Ledbury.

1957 was the year we got electricity and running water in the house, (cold only) but we still had an outside netty in the yard. I’m bloody glad I don’t have to walk down the yard now on a cold winters night :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: .Regards Kev.

I always wanted a two piece set Dave but the company would only supply a voucher for a boiler suit (yes I know Harry, I could have cut it in half! :unamused: ) so I just wore trousers and a shirt and got bartled up with tarmac and diesel instead. . Misses used to say" I’m not washing those" but I just told her to use the machine instead as the diesel would give it a good clean out. :sunglasses:

Pete.
