WJ Oldacres had a place just outside leicester on the A47 at Skeffington, called Skeffington mills, i’ll try and get take some pics of the old premises as they are still there. They used to have about 4 or 5 lorries, couple of 6 wheeler mercs and some erf 8 leggers…
They also had a small mill in terminus rd ind est in Chichester,
Its been closed for a good few years now tho
maquiers transport of cheltenham started as a haulage contractor for the bishop cleeve mill i think that steve maquire was a driver for oldacres before him and his brothers started on their own
Hello Ianto,
As you know , we hauled from Bishops Cleeve, and sold Oldacres Feed in our area for 20years. I remember the Maguires starting in Oldacres - Bishops Cleeve.
Their first new lorry was a Volvo F10 - driven by Mark. - They liked our F10 so much,-- they bought a new one.— Steve was driving the Merc taughtliner 6 wheeler for Oldacres.
I also remember Santa Fe Haulage with a fleet of Mercedes starting in Oldacres - yard.
Before all this, Oldacres were selling and serviceing new Mercs in the same yard. – they also started a big haulage business using Mercedes Artics ,-- they soon ended, and Santa-Fe started.
Santa-Fe ended in Oldacre’s yard in the 80s, – they started again with the name - Atchinson Topeka and moved to Droitwich, – where they are today. – They got the railway names - Santa-Fe and Atchinson Topeka, which are both Railway operaters in the USA.
Oldacres was bought out by Dalgety in the early 90s, and the name disapeared later when Dalgety went bust. The Bishops Cleve yard is now a supermarket.
Regards - Hywel.
Oldacre bought Santa Fe and were bought themselves by Unigate, now absorbed into Wincanton.
