Old Volvo still working

Spotted her twice now, on both occasions on the A160 near Killingholme. Thought my eyes were deceiving me first time but today I had a box seat view.

Day cab F88/9, with a silver grille on an N registration. Painted a dull grey its a 3 axle tractor but the axles are so close that it looks just like a basic 4x2 with a centre steer squeezed in. Pulling a 40ft container, I assume its a shunter for someone but its obviously still working… great stuff!

I believe he is an owner driver. The cab apparently used to be a sleeper, but the sleeper was cut off for some reason, I think to do with close coupled trailers and axle loading.
He plods up and down the road at 50mph, and is still going strong. Met the driver once, seems a nice bloke.

I got stuck behind him the other week, he goes a good bit less than 50mph.

Its nice to see an old truck still on the road though, far more interesting than all the new stuff.

Paul

i think it is an F88,

he used to run containers and had a home built air deflector kit on the trailer… both unit and trailer were painted in battleship grey

Kudos to the guy in keeping the old gal working!!! :open_mouth:

I saw it on the M18 near Doncaster a few weeks ago.

Don’t know who owns it but I’ll sure try and find out.

Seen it in Corus at Scunny a little while ago.

Could be running in and out of there perhaps?

Ken.
