Old Test vehicle question?

If you have an older person ( the missus) who passed their car test in the eighties that has a C1+E entitlement on their licence, can they take their C test in a 1950’s truck that is loaded at 8 tons ? And then later hook a trailer on (full trailer with drawbar and a turntable). That makes a total all up weight of just under 12 tonnes. Then take a CE test in it.
And it would not have a tacho fitted due to age ?

As she would like a licence to drive a truck at 44t ( just to say she can ) and i fancy having an old beast to show…even though I cannot drive it due to medical reasons at present.
Who knows ?

Hiya… if the lorry is pre 1950 you dont need anymore than a car licence if your under 65 years.
it may even be 1960… no licence…no MOT…no roadtax…just insurance…how’s that.
theirs a chap with a brs leyland comet artic /btc trailer in the same boat…
needs nothing only insurance.

Yep I think its pre 1960, but she WÀNTS a class 1 also, as perhaps one day the old F12 will be back on the road and she will want to drive it with a trailer attached.
And if she can learn in the oldie training would be " free" to some extent and help me pay for it.

So a full CE (class 1 ) licence then? If so it’s medical, theory, pass the cat. C then CE. As an aside her current C1E should be restricted to 8250 kgs (if that’s relevent for any reason  )

Yep…thats it ! Women !!!
But if she can take her tests in the old veteran truck It helps me justify the purchase and keeping ?

I don’t think you could use it… Full requirements are listed here:

You need to have a max plated weight of at least 12 T, at least 8 gears, ABS and seat belts among other things. Sorry!

■■■■ !!!,
Thats what i looked for and could not find any info on…oh well , have to send her to a good trainer then ! ( and spend money) .

Bugger hey?! That said- if she wants to be able to drive full CE @ 44T one day it’s best she’s trained in a new motor properly anyway. Costs some dosh but well worth it when/if she ends up driving a full size artic.

Once she has passed the test, the only truck she would ever drive probably is my old 1986 F12 that is ancient to rally’s . She is a medical doctor ! Its just a " if you can do it so can I thing " , but i have seen an old wagon and drag I fancy but have to justify the cost of buying it…just for me to clean and show.

No tacho = no test because having a tacho fitted is a DSA LGV test vehicle requirement = no exceptions

I think ABS is also a DSA LGV test vehicle requirement
