His yard is still there but has not been used for a few years now. It was last used as a salvage yard. His yard was next door to Towmasters, another haulage firm that went when Canning Town Glass shut down.

Towmasters, thats a blast from the past !! My uncle used to work for them at their Sheerness depot. I think they had mainly ERFs? blue and red motors. I,d love to see a picture of one of their motors. What ever happend to them?.

I’m not sure myself what became of Towmasters myself Mark but Killsville will know I’m sure.
I remember them in the 70s when I was on night trunk and they’d sneak up on you in their red and blue ERFs with all lights off and then pass you with the cab light on and give you a wave and away into the night. We changed over at Morpeth,Stannington,Penrith,Carlisle and Lockerbie but never did find out where the Denaby drivers changed over.

Scotch Corner, I believe Chris!

Towmasters seemed to go under when Canning Town Glass at Swinton shut down. They were bottle suppliers to distillers. After that work dried up, they didn’t last long and their fleet of Merc 1625’s just disapeared.

Maybe so! But I do remember my mates dad (who worked nights) regularly used to change over at Scotch Corner, usually twice a shift.
