Parked on the Quayside at Blyth with the Foden i loved VJR546H and a Target trailer loaded for Speke.
Behind a AEC Mandator UJR557H olso with a Target trailer on loaded with a Meri container out of Blyth for Dundee.
The 70`s on the bbc 1 of 4 Number 4 has a small piece about the drivers strike
of 1979 , shows bells of ashingtons trucks parked up and a little bit of the tyne bridge.
catch it on bbc i player, might be of interest to some.
A while ago someone mentioned P.G.Waltons from Gateshead, If my memmory is correct they were the first hauliers in the area to have forty footers, with a lot of marker lights on the side, I think they could only haul special loads, I dont think they were allowed to carry normal stuff which could be done with ordinary vehicles, any old photos would be great, & im sure they sold out to A V Dawson earley 60s , any comments lads, Regards Larry.

I think thereâs more than Harry, Larry, and myself need to go easy on the âneck oilâ
regards Kevmac47.
Ha ha, aye John that FL7 was a nightmare, I once crawled away onto a roundabout on the 1231 and it was so slow a bird in a sports job came flying around giving it six nowt and bounced off the trailer wheels, she wasnât hurt but her squeels were even lowder than the radio station she had on. That pic of the MAN is Alberts by the way, Davieâs was G105 TNL and Bob had G104 with the Isle of Man TT racing sticker above the screen. The old King Low Loader was a swine sometimes to break depending on the ground. Hereâs a model of Daveâs motor I made at the time. Franky.

Point of interest, I heard the other day that Van Heeâs yard has been sold to Gateshead College. I somehow donât think it will be starting up again as a haulage depot.
regards Kev.
Could be true Kev⌠My wife works for the university and she tells me they are building a residence hall in Gateshead. This could be the start of it.
Well there doesnât seem to be any Brown and Yellow motors in there anymore when I passed yesterday. They are making a lot of changes around the area of the College and most of the companies along Hawks Rd are said to be moving to make space for new building work. Seems like we are going to have plenty people around with business qualifications but no where to use them! Sign of the times I suppose. Franky.

Franky, they seem to forget the old adage of âtoo many chiefs not enough indiansâ. Why does everyone need to gain a degree? I am not against further education, but it should be by choice, and the education bods should be leaning more to work oriented study and apprenticeships IMO. Regards Kev. Ps rant over for tonight.

Are you refering to Shorties at Green Lane as in Sam Andersons from Newhouse ? I worked for Shorties as did both my sons, Ken Short was one of the best gaffers I ever worked for, Regards Larry.
Any Crossleys Lads from the 70,s â â ? a mate of mine out here in Aussie was telling me his late Dad worked there for years and even when it was or became Teesside carriers â â ? I see a pic of one of their Scanias on an earlier page
Yes thats the ones Larry, there are not many haulage companies left in the Tyneside area these days.

As Sam Andersons just closed Shorties down, or have they closed also?
