Just come on tonight and I see we’re up to 50 pages, not bad for less than a year. Thanks to everybody who’s posted and keep them comin’. Some great pics on here and and even better stories, surely there can’t be many companies we haven’t covered by now.
Cheers, Bri

hope to here soon …dennis
Hi Dennis, welcome aboard still remember you from my days at Steetley in the old days you got a night out for running scotch we had to do it in a shift but our motors seemed to have a little more power. Hung my keys up in '97 and went back to nursing, ready to retire this year. The name is from the CB handle but the one in the cab window had my name on it.
hope you are well speak soon.
I remember Trembles well, coming from just up the road, as kids we played in the valley (known as Cowboy Valley) opposite the yard, loads of old mobile cranes, plant and tippers, seemed to be one of those companies that was always seen around in those days, rather like Reeds Cranes. In the early Sixties on Longbenton estate there were alot of drivers, apart from my old man’s motor parked outside the house and his mates from the same firm further down the street, a few doors away lived a Cazaly Bros driver with his 8 wheel tipper, someone who worked for Hoults and the odd four wheel tipper parked here and there.
There would be hell on today if so many HGV’s were parked within a distance of 100 yards of each other on a modern estate.
Franky.

hi franky most drivers took lorry’s home then, my dad used to park in front of the house unless he was on a dodgy then it was hidden behind the mauratainia pub
here’s a name from the past, John Bainbridge transport his yard was by the scrap yard near the rope works at Willington quay.
he had 2 trucks an old AEC and a dodge both worked in the shipyards mostley, he was a top man, he was badly injured
when hit by a charles alexander on the A1 at alnwick. they bought him out and closed it down.
hi
anyone remember B M English agricultural merchants from east rainton in 70s they ran about six motors or Derek Taylor transport from crook. He ran eight 16 ton four wheelers on general haulage in late eighties early nineties. ps any photos would be nice. taylors wagons were blue with a white stripe running round cab never any name on them
thanks

I’m sure it was your Dad’s 82 I got when I started back at VanHee second time, he got a new tauliner and this is a pic of the four first 82’s we had, you can see UCN 923Y in the line up, taken from the VanHee brochure they brought out. I also used to squeeze onto the narrow bed along side my lad when I had him on trips with me, he loved it when I got the Transcon so he had a bed to himself! Shame I missed him and Trev at the drink but hopefully I’ll catch him next time. I’ve added a couple of the motor I had at Fergusons, she wasn’t exactly a powerhouse but we got the job done and being naturally aspirated I was up and down the box like Fanny Craddock stirring a pudding, mind if I knew I was getting a FL7 after her I would have kept the old girl. Those Transcon pics are smashing from Bumper, I remember working on them (first time around) the Ford with the Eimco machine on the lowloader was Jimmy Gudrum’s, I had to reset the injectors every month or so as he said it wouldn’t pull your hat off, it had the E290 ■■■■■■■ in, the other one was Morris Potts and went like a train. Well Happy New Year to everyone, sorry I’m a little early but I suffer from Premature Congratulations! Cheers Franky. PS been trying to rack my brains thinking of the name of the lad at Blyth Docks, got on well with him and he was always willing to give a helping hand, some old Fergie lads must remember his name!
Hi Franky… Happy New Year to you…nearly certain blyth shunters name was geordie, great lad didn`t discriminate against us lower life from S/land… must say that was one of Harry Marshs better loaded loads, still have been fun getting out of Cambria St, S/Hylton I bet, always seemed to be a car parked at the end…dave

Cheers for that Gary, it was his surname I couldn’t remember, shame the treatment some people get after so many years being loyal to a company. Franky.

Just been on the Great North Road Book thread and mentioned a telly programme in the 80s that followed one of Glendinning’s car transporters northbound. They stopped off at Norman’s and carried on north. Does anybody remember it or what it was called?
