Old North East haulage companies (Part 1)

Been a while since I’ve posted. Now retired, but trying to contact any Teesside drivers from 70’s,80’s thru’ to 2019. Anyone remember E.Carlisle & Sons (Carlisle Bros),Stockton Haulage,N T Whitfield? There are a host of other Teesside companies too.All now resigned to trucking history. Love to hear from any of you lads!

A few old AEC’s.

Nice to bump into you Laurence, photo of the quayside as promised.

I must be getting old as when I look at photos on Trucknet not so much this thread and think these vehicles are brand new and then when I think 2010 was 12 years ago which is a long time in vehicle’s lives. What I consider now as an old vehicle is ancient and what younger readers see as old are new in my eyes. The same as so many haven’t a clue what cwt is now. Life goes on I suppose but as I’m getting older I wish it would slow down a bit

Tell me about it! I replied to someone last week on here who had posted a pic of an Iveco Eurostar. I used to own one and still think of it as a modern truck. Then I realised that they’ve been on the roads (mostly off them now!) for 30 years :open_mouth:

I knew Fred Elliott for most of my life and remember him buying this van new. It was the first vehicle he ever bought new and t the time I was at School in Durham and often saw it parked outside his home in Elvet. When we were busy we often gave Fred some of our local removals and his sons always did a good job

One of your old motors Lawrence?

I can’t recall any knowledge of this lad and his truck from Gateshead, anybody else know??
However I could rope and sheet from being a young lad!!!

I vaguely remember seeing him around Ray, but can’t recall any details.
But the roping and sheeting job is worth looking at!! I think a double dolly on
that pair in the coil carrier should keep them safe. :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

Changing tack a bit just thought I’d post a couple of photos from back in the day. I remember meeting Keith Moon on a couple of occasions, nice bloke. His Rolls Royce was parked outside the Five Bridges Hotel Gateshead but in a bit better condition than on these photos. I always remember how big the aerial on the roof was and believe he didn’t even have a drivers licence but had a chauffeur of course!

Looking at the “Five Bridges” now it’s in a more sorry state than the scrappers in the pic Ray. Regards Kev.

Owned by the Jewish community now, think it is an education facility.

Hello Ray, in the seventies we used to drop Manchester Liners boxes into De La Rue, when loaded we would convoy them to Seaforth Dock or even Felixstowe. We were escorted by several security cars and crews. The containers would go direct to the ship and into the bottom of the hold. It was great to drive past all the motors in the queue! Straight onto the quay. Regards Kev.
