Hi Ray, Harry was a good friend of mine I used to get some tipper work from him when he was busy, Do remember Tommy Marsh & Arthur Richardson, Bobby Brown drivers that worked for him, Larry.Hi Larry, I drove for Harry from being a young lad but just for a couple of years. I know of Bobby Brown (no relation) he used to come into Crows yard when he worked for Galleon Transport. The other drivers you mention I just know of through Harry but I believe they were from Scots Gap. The initial connection with Harry stemmed from him being in the army in France with my dad and Charlie Shepherd. Harry and I became lifelong friends and we shared a passion for transport and trucks. I used to have a pint with him every Sunday morning until he sadly passed away in 2015. I’ve got a library of personal photos of his business and a memory of tales and stories of his lifelong business dealings. He was a fascinating man who could turn muck into money by looking at it!! I’m posting more photos today of Tommy and Arthur’s trucks and a photo of old lime spreading trucks that were Harry’s. Thanks for your interest.
You should tell some of his tell on here as well as the pictures some might be interested or can add to them

I could write a book literally!!! I’ve actually got a draught copy of a book Harry wrote about his memoirs, it’s fascinating. Ray.
I’m on a roll, thought of lots of peoples names from Crows Transport when I worked there from 1964 to 1967 (I was15) so here goes. I’m 72 now so a lot of these great blokes will be sadly long gone. Apologies in advance for any omissions or spelling mistakes.

I had to repost this one, this was my first proper job driving an identical Henley. Mine didn’t have a cab though, just the roll bar.
Good pic of the Van Hee motor Dean, pity we can’t see the driver too well, spoilt by the rainy day, but it could be Joe Pepper, he did like a high seating position when driving. Cheers Franky.

Franky you may find this article intresting. I know “tyneside” likes these old articles.
Click on pages twice to read.
Interesting article Dean thanks, not a computer or H&S expert to be seen. Wonder how much the same operation would cost to set up these days?
Tyneside
Sorry double post !
Interesting stuff Dean, I would never have guessed walking floors were around in 1955.

Hi Kempson, They had a double head board system the inner one was worked with hydraulic rams that pushed the load out. Larry.
Dean I remember seeing those Leyland Octopus bulkers in and around Newcastle when I ran over to Tyneside regularly in the mid 1960s and to Larry the moving double headboard system a forerunner of today’s walking floors.
Cheers, Leyland 600.
