Hello
I am a new member my Name is Albert Armstrong from Bedlington Station Northumberland - My Father of the same Name who used to go Bart work for Frank Dodds in Bedlington station - I was my father apprentice as I had been going to the garage in Clayton street for years - and I have had a look thought the site which brings back a lot of happy memories of the old trucks from the 60’s and 70’s etc - I used to work for Tommy Dodd’s on a Sunday and service his truck and I knew his son Young Tommy - I was wanting to ask if any body has any photo’s of Frank Dodds trucks as during the years my collection has gone missing with me working away from home and my parents passing on - this is a great site I am contactable by my email

Well Albee welcome to TNUK, If you scroll back on this thread there is a couple of Tommy Dodds Motors on, As for Frankie Dodds, I haven’t seen any photos of his motors on here, But Im sure someone will have some, I can remember himn running a Ford Trader, Six wheeler twin steer Dodge, The late Alan Cox would drive it, Young Hubert drover a 4 wheeler Commer running out of Greenleighton Quarry for Tilcon in the 70s, There was also a 6 wheeler Dodge at that time too I think the drivers name was Morffy or something like that ?, Hopefully someone will dig some old photos of the late old Franky Dodds motors out & keep his mems alive, Regards Larry.

Hi Albee couple of photos my mam gave me not the best quality sorry. Think it’s Tommy driving Franks lorry the other lad was called Sam standing next to lorry.
Cheers Stephen

Hi Larry
Yes you aright Alan Cox was a good friend and I know Hubert also we more or less grew up together - the twin steer Dodge was converted back to a 4 wheeler and I was on the maiden run with sand from Cress well beach and as you come along the beach road and turn right up the bank half way up the bank my Dad Barty missed a gear and of course the brake were not a 100% -no damage managed to get stopped in the grass and the embankment -all good stuff - Frank Dodds had 3 x Thames traders one of the drivers was Willy Watson good driver he also had the 6 wheel Guy Freddie Gibbons drove this he was nick named Freddie the flyer 0he did the fly ash run from Blyth power station - My Dad drove the 6 wheel Dodge he had a 4 wheel and a 6 wheel Commer and 2 ready mix trucks - thanks for the feed back - the quarry at Wooler was at Pow burn used to take sand and gravel to ready mix plant in Bedlington Station on the Barrington road - it good to think of the years growing up many Thank
Albee
