Hi Prattman, another story the foden i put on the thread of me sitting in the cab reg 228 FUP was bought by GW Lee transport and the driver Alan Smith went to work for them. Sadly one morning Alan was fully loaded going through Stanley, when a wagon pulled out in front of him, he hit the the back end and was killed. He was a great bloke 28 year old and his wife was in hospital the same day having a baby. regards servo88

Thanks Harry, I hadn’t heard of Tommy for many years. He worked for McPhees before starting as an O/D. I think he subbed for them initially, but don’t remember any other work he had. I do recall he was a great ‘patter’ merchant. He was a regular at Red House and the Tally Ho! Regards Kev.
sorry to hear about tommy farrell, not many of Mcphees lads left, kev he worked out of the old simpson work at darlington when he had the 142/3, when that finished he go a four wheel scania work out of kelly packaging dunston till he retired.
RIP TOMMY,

Hi Prattman, just been looking at some photo,s what you put on a thread .Nigel Roe of Consett, i know his dad Johnny very well, was talking to him the other day and he said their Nigel had 8 motors on the road.I can remember when Johnny drove an old 8 wheeler Leyland for Salkelds out of Newlandside, he got a brand new one with the LAD cab. But it was underpowered as it only had the 600 engine in, shortly after that he left and got his own motor at Readymix. regards servo88
Hi servo 88
Funny you should mention Nigel Roe I took some photo’s out of the bedroom window yesterday of one of his going into No One ind estate followed closely by one of Elddis’s and the day before after my wife picked me up after my transfusion we were heading into Consett when a mega space cab 6-wheel Mercedes tautliner was turning down towards his yard I noticed it had his name on the back doors, the cab was white but had a mural behind the doors it was to far away to make out what it was might try and persuade the missus to go down that way in the near future.
As regards to which hospital I have my transfusion at the last two have been at shotley bridge which is real handy as it is just down the road the before that I had one at dryburn durham on Christmas eve, for all my cancer care I go to the freeman at Newcastle I also go for my pacemaker check there every six months it used to be a year but the battery getting a bit long in the tooth nowadays. regards prattman.
More sad news Im afraid, Ive just been told that John Lowes has passed away, RIP John, Regards Larry.
Hi Prattman, it is a funny old world that photo of Nigels Roe,s wagon well it was parked up at Satley yesterday i was going to stop and take a picture but was running late for the Freemans. We may have passed each other there at sometime as i have a pacemaker and defibrillater fitted. But last time i was there they gave me a monitor what reads it and sends imformation back to the hospital. So saves me going, high tec eh, called at Hargreaves yard at Esh Winning today, locked up but took a couple of photos through the fence, if any good will put them on the thread. Regards servo88.
Hi Prattman, he,s a bit of nostalgia that photo you put on this thread of Rogerley quarry is still owned by Wards and is now a timber processing plant. I can remember when it first opened up as a gravel plant, at first there was one road in at the top through the tree,s. Then they put another a long side it but there was still tree,s in the middle. With the mud and the tree roots it was a nightmare to get up , sometimes it would take three to four attempt,s. That quarry opened up when they closed the one at the bottom end of Willington, it was down by the river side. So Wards have done a full circle so to speak, he,s a photo of their Scania. Regards servo88
Hi Prattman, how transport,s changed eh, regards servo88
Hi servo 88
At the moment I am trying to sort out my photo’s here’s an early shot of Wards timber followed by some of Simpsons when they were based at Stocksfield quality not very good
Hi Prattman liked that one of Wards, keep them coming. Let me know what you think of this lot. Regards servo88
