you cant make mistakes now a mistake means a 3 week investigation.

a mistake from my day (and i am not as old as some on here) meant a clipe round the head from my dad at worst or a bollocking beyond belief, i can recall at fergys i had a roll of paper break free and smash through the trailer (yesit had been strapped and chocked) anyhow no one was hurt so lucky there, but by god i had alec purvis going off my old man going off etc etc etc.

never made that mistake again and never would.

some of my best memories as a child were goign with my dad, learning and occasionally earning :sunglasses:

Were you driving a Iveco when this unlucky thing happened to you ■■, Regards Larry.

Alec do you recall this mishap?? Regards Larry.

Can recall a bit about the incident Larry,The load of reels were loaded single high and 2 across in a tautliner,For a reel to come out through the back door of the tautliner is not acceptable and should not happen,In my opinion Wayne was a young lad driving and learning his trade for his father Andy,[Twice Vital]Had these reels been loaded chocked and secured correctly with no gaps between the reels this incident should not have happened. The reel must have being rolling back and forward against the rear door for some time to come out of the back door, A good bollocking was certainly in order from his dad and me,nothing less, hopefully he learned from this incident.I beleive we sent a hiab to recover the reel.

When is this years “do” does anyone know yet

Bumper told me it was the 29th this year. Franky.

sorry chaps just got back on, yes it was an iveco and no i got the reel back on the trailer. its was choked and roped but made the error of having 1 at the front then rows of 2 which had moved hence the reel coming out

and by christ did i get a bollocking.

mind you i never took the wrong trailer number to aberdeen or wherever (alec).

as you both say i did deserve it and it was a mistake never repeated! or allowed to be forgotten :unamused:

oh and it was only 5 reels as had delivered somewhere else prior. ( it was 1/2/2 loaded)

not sure if it was cradley but it was on a triangle of road and i came in the wrong way had to go up to the top and spin round to go in the ‘correct’ way (info i coudl have done with prior!).

either way ■■■■ happens and you live and learn.

hi paw 123 and everyone else
just to let you know that I am now at home recovering from my operation to remove a cancer growth from my pelvic area I have spent the last nine weeks in hospital but still have a long way to go before I will be well enough to go back to work but with the support of my wife, who is also suffering from skin cancer and going for treatment next week and other members of the family we hope to get through this ordeal together.regards prattman

Hope you get well soon Gary. Jeff had a heart attack several weeks ago not sure if you will have heard.

Hi Gary
Had not heard about Jeff having a heart attack how is he?, do you know what he was doing before this happened I had heard he was helping his brother at his pub in Warkworth is this correct.
My wife has had her tumors removed and had plastic surgery on one ear and is on the road to recovery, I still have more visits back to the Freeman hospital to see how things are going and it will be well into 2015 before I know how things have turned out. cheers Gary.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this as most of us are a bit further north than York maybe a yorkshire thread would be better or start a new 1

Flowers had a few lads based in this area in the 70/80s. One of them died in a fire in his cab. Jimmy Purvis, R.I.P. Well known to lots of older hands on this thread. Regards Kev.
