i knew through my step dad bill grimes who worked for mcphees also harry holmes on another note my stepdad worked for gowlands at low fell before van hees came along

Well I new quite a lot of Mcphees Drivers , But of course a lot of them might be long gone, I do know that Trevor Turnbull is still about, He drove for them when they had the Scanias on double shift work running from Newcastle to Wolverhampton, Gordy Forster from Ponteland drove a ERF For them & he is still about, My mems not as good as it used to be, But more names may come to mind, Regards Larry.

my dad norman parfitt told me about the scanias double shifting I think he used to drive one of them iv managed to find a few old photos , my dad passed away 3 year ago that’s all he used to talk about the good old days in the wagon cheers larrry

Aye , Lower Horsleyfields Road IIRC, I used to go their for pick up notes when I used to back load from them Usually for Jarrow Tube works, The good old days Eh, Regards Larry.

Spot on Larry,i can only remember Shorthouses being there but i can remember my Dad telling me about McPhees Atki 8 leggers backing off the road into depot

IIRC,The transport manager was called Moody in the 60/70s Era, He went on to work for J.R.Adams when McPhees packed in, Regards Larry.

I’m finding it hard to remember if i’ve got the right building,pretty sure its this one as Shorthouses used it later,can you remember if it was inbetween 2 railway lines,one on viaduct ans one in a cutting? they only 200yds apart but as my Dad has passed away i can’t check up :blush:

Nice bit of history there Larry,the other yard i was thinking about was opposite BOC and you could drive in one end and out the other,but i can remember Dad telling me about McPhees atki 8 leggers shod with 40x8’s parked on main road,i got a Wolverhampton trade book that has advert for McPhees in it,can’t find the bloody thing though

Can anyone recall where the Bobby Durhams depot was in Wallsall,It was probably the first place i went with my dad as a 9 or 10 year old (school holidays and all that!!) :grimacing:
