Old Kent Road, London

Not really a trucking question this, but my brother has been lumbered with having to work in London for 3 months (he’s a civil engineer on a local building site) & is living in a hotel on the Old Kent Road.
He said the hotel is crap, & doesnt even serve breaky untill 8am by which time he’s long gone to work.

So does anyone know of any decent take aways / resurants near by. He wound up at some dodgey Japenese resturant on his first night & wasn’t sure what he ended up eating, but was was sure he was going to regret it.

He cant ask the locals as all the locals are from Eastern Europe  Talk about being a stranger in your own land. :unamused:

If all else fails then there’s always the trusty McDonalds

Sometimes you just have to take a Chance but I really do hate getting sent back there.

Unfortunately the whole area taken in by the Old Kent Road is a complete dive, and you definitely don’t want to be moving around there too much after dark. I can’t honestly think of anywhere there worth going to eat.

It will depend on where he is on old kent road and has he use of car

i know you get a cracking cup of free coffee at the mercedes dealer on old kent road. nice bunch of lads and lasses too.

if your brother is there for three months then i guess he will have time to sample every pub, restaurant and eatery on old kent road, well maybe.

go down the east end for jellied eels and a cockney kneesup

Depends where he is. If he’s near the top, there’s a good cafe on the junction of Grange Road and Crimscott Street. However, the opening hours aren’t very long.

There is a decent chinese right at the new cross end cant miss it as it was a pub he is probbaly better off heading up round the bourgh (the area around london bridge) short bus or taxi journey theres plenty of bars restraunts etc up there

Go down the Walworth Rd to Westmoreland Road, the best Pie n Mash in the world is made there, mmmmmmmm mmmmmmmm

I used to work in Southwark, but the area has changed a lot.

There is a community forum: london-se1.co.uk/

It contains a lot of very frank and useful information on local restaurants, amenities and things to do.

Hope this helps!
