There where some fine establisments alond the A1 At hatfield you had Jim’s, or Jocks cafe, which would now be part of the tunnel, B&B + evening meal £3.50 this was 8 drivers bunked in one room, but the food was good, One night a particular driver who snored loudly found himself waking under the stars in the Lorry park, he didn’t wake as 4 of us carried him out about 11.30, but the look on his face the next morning

There was also many a good butty van, I always fondly remember June who started in the laybye at elkesley with an old ambulance, eventually having a special trailer built, was never the cheapest but always top notch grub.
