I’ve been driving these MANs as well, and I have to say I really like the cab - it’s very 80 style, but it’s well thought, spacy and comfy and you can feel the quality - it’s not that plasticky feeling of the new ones…
Im hoping to be getting this old girl soon Mutley,s going posh and getting a newer wagon so ive asked can i have this instead of my 04 plate, this is a much nicer truck.
I saw that on the way to college in pontefract the other day. Not sure if it was that exact motor but it was similar and fully loaded with pallets
Cheers

It’s a great picture of the Locomotive, these were used mainly around Teeside when the intermodal 44 tonne came in. Denby ran one, as did Bulkhaul, Stiller and Isotank.
This pic is quite recent, as far as I know its still working , there are two similar R reg ERF s that are definetly still at it as I see them regularly on the A66
Whats the story behiind the ‘locomotive’ tag?

I am not sure if that locomotive is equivalent of what we know “a ballast tractor” in Europe, but the point of it that the vehicle do not carry any load weight on it - it is just pulling the trailer with the cargo, just like the train engine (which is called a locomotive in several European languages as far as I know).
In some cases it carries a blocks of concrete or something like which help it to get a traction.
In other cases it’s just 6x6 or 8x8 drive, in my part of Europe you could see mostly heavy Tatra lorries in that role:
Off course I stand to be corected if I am wrong.

Still used on shunting work

only ever saw it move once in the year i worked out that depot
It still earns it’s keep although I’m the same only ever seen it move once. And even then it sounded dog rough Certainly would love to make it a restoration project myself bring it back to it’s old ‘glory’ days
Cheers

There are at least two of these running from Wilton to Teesport, I passed one going in each direction last Tuesday (20th)

looked nice their when i personally cleaned it up not looking so good since pigpen got it
locomotive is used as in heavy locomotive to pull a heavy load as opposed to carrying the load.
An alternative would be a ballasted tractor which that isnt
