Old girls still working

I went to Malta and its smaller sister, Gozo, a couple of weeks ago. As a classic lorry enthusiast I could not believe what I saw. Literally, and I do mean literally, every 2nd or 3rd lorry is an old British gem. ERF ECs are considered new lorries, and the ones I saw were all in good condition, like a time warp - especially these orange artics I kept seeing. Leyland Cruisers and Constructors from the 80s and 90s are everywhere, Bedford TLs crop up all the time. Even the odd Bedford TK rumbles past. ERF E series tend to be the most popular. One night we got stuck behind a rigid petrol tanker climbing hills at what felt like jogging speed, and when we finally overtook I was overjoyed to see it was an old Leyland Clydesdale. Anyway, as I was always on a bus, in a taxi, or in my friend’s parents’ car, I was extremely frustrated at not being able to photograph anything. When I was on foot I tended to be inner city. However, on a few occasions I did manage to photograph a handful of lorries, and this is what I got. I’m seriously considering going back, hiring a car or quad, and doing some serious lorry spotting.

These two belonged to the same owner in a village called Masarlforn on Gozo.

This ERF C series was waiting to deliver at the bus terminal in Valetta, the capital of Malta. Note its good condition.

And a couple more.

Snapped on my phone while on holday with the family, a tidy 3srs on Kiln Park Haven site Tenby. Not the best but it was moving and I had to grab my phone from my pocket and snap away!

Has anyone else seen the old Astrans Scania still earning it’s keep?

I’ve seen it twice lately. First pulling an anonymous looking blue curtainsider and again pulling an extendible trailer. Both on the M4 in Berkshire.

Any info?

If its the one I’m thinking about, I’m sure it belongs to ‘Richmond’ who is a member on here. There are quite a few pics of her floating about… H reg I believe…

Yes, I believe he did… Not sure what thread it’s on but IIRC he sent it over with a load and was then doing some internal work… The lorry ended up staying there for a while until Richmond had time to get over and get it. Jumped started it, blew up a tyre and drove it home… Not bad for a twenty odd year old motor…

still working in naples…

I think that’s been out of service for a couple of years now - he was trying to sell it a year or two back

Shame we don’t see more of the old T45 Leylands in service, still got fond memories of them

Perhaps a slightly naive question, but are all these still working?
