Old Firms in Oxford Area

BigG-Unit:
Interesting article running in Heritage Commercials mag the last few months following the life of Roy Partridge of R. Partridge (Cassington) Ltd. One or two names he mentions are chaps I ran across in my early years. Something I didn’t know was that, in the early '60s, he took on the maintenance of H. Tuckwells fleet of around 45 wagons, mostly Bedfords.

If their money was better, or if I could park in Witney, I’d work for Tuckwells’ tomorrow; Nice, laid back old fashioned company.
Not much going in the way of driving jobs in Oxfordshire at the moment unless you fall for the fairy stories of agencies.

Our latest edition at Didcot, a new puddle-jumper for the really awkward drops we can’t get the 6 wheelers into, she’s automatic & a lovely drive!

Called in Cherry’s today to drop off some MOT paperwork for 1 of our horses to Roger, Welsh Mark came in with his DAF 105 with a water leak, & then the orange DAF 105 came in with a fuel leak!

Anyone else got any of John Kardos’ wagons? Got to be one of Oxfordshires’ best kept fleets…

Just borrowed this from Bubb’s Scrapbook Thread & wondered if anyone has any info on either of the firms mentioned.

Oh…er! Seems you have to scroll the picture down to read text. Don’t know why that is! or is it just me!

Hopefully, the small outfits are quiet at the moment but “today” has become “tomorrow” and just heard Monday too. Nice and relaxing and a nice motor too that doesn’t look it’s age.

Nathan that Daf is not complete untill your yanky number plate is added

Saw Nathan today ,he looked and sounded happy ! “good luck buddy” by the way give your new truck a wash !

Apparently a local lad washes their wagons on Saturdays. The Canadian plate is in the windscreen, Steve. That Daf’s only a 310 but it goes well, and I’m getting 9.4mpg just on local loads.

Keep your head down Nathan and earn yourself a permanent post.

Well Mr Gibson Jr has text to say he’s had my lorry washed for me over the weekend…
…And I’ve bought a Union Jack for the cab wall :open_mouth:
