Hi Pigpen, yes mate did my apprenticeship there late 70s-early 80s, when Transport was up BJ Henry’s old yard, great 5 years of my life

Here Chris , was you driving Dens lush Roadtrain here , Den always had the rear windows covered , I reckon he was off . :open_mouth:

Did one of those ever pull a publicity trailer? I’m sure I remember seeing one somewhere, possibly the now defunct Witney Trade Fair?

Here you go new I had them somewhere  I remember this day cos it was a Saturday & Den’ had a job to go & pick the exhibition trailer up from Longbridge, the day before I had passed my Class 1 aged 20, so obviously being keen as I asked if I could go with Den’ knowing he would let me do all the driving. I forget now where this Roadtrain had come from, we were always having them in & out of our yard at various times. The1 that really peed me off was when we had the Roadtrain that was won by Simon Sargent in the TRUCK mag’ competition in our yard, all chrome stacks/air horns the lot, it was kept there for about a month parked over in the corner out the way & no-one was allowed near it, I did sneak a quick drive round the yard in it but that was it :grimacing: :imp:

Don’t know what happened there  Here we go!

Hi Steve, can’t remember exactly where that Roadtrain was from, it could have been 1 of Longbridge’ wagons we’d knicked for a bit, they had them to replace their Crusader’s to pull the engines into Cowley every day! Too dirty to be Den’s regular motor!

Hi Chris , i see its got a gutter mounted cb twig , so im pressuming it had a regular driver ?

Old Hooky still my favourite pint.

I here that ROUTEMAN69 has a new toy !!! , pictures please richard

Hi Steve, it was probably being driven by Jim Gray or Mick Hooper regularly, they were on what was called the Spare Group, they did the Motor Show’s, all the Show/demonstration work & all the European work so they tended to get the newer/better wagons when they came, even if they only at Cowley for a short time. Den went on that group when he came off nights, as you know Den was on nights for years, I was glad he came onto days cos he taught me so much!

If anyone gets the chance, have a look out for a book called Witney Then and Now by Stanley Jenkins. It’s got some great town centre traffic pics and includes Bernard T Frosts’ old offices where Langdale Gate now runs. Talking of pics I’ve found some I took of the old station yard being redeveloped into Sainsburys, I’ll see if I can reproduce and post them on here.

They’ve got aggregate bays to the left of the picture, I used to deliver there regularly. Sometimes they’d order enough to give me a days’ work…A nice easy day, with a nice choice of places to stop for a break (or two!)
