Great thread, I lived in Witney for a few years, and have been to Oxford may times so recognise some of the sights.

Muckaway, you may already have this picture, anyway, steam and a fire tender, right up your street, also would the fire tender have any connection (datewise) to your earlier posting.

This is a French made press arriving from Southhampton Docks in 1971, the press was for the floorpan of the then “new” Marina.

Just had a look back and it could be the same one at the Cook and Boggis fire.

Hi oiltreader and Muckaway,
I was on Malta last May and visited a Truck Rally . There were two Bedford Fire Engines on display .
Could this be the one to which you are referring ? The Maltese reg.no. for the other is EBO 131 .
Hope this is of some help to you.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Hi Andrew,
i presume that was you in the Davies wagon flashed me round by AP Didcot couple of weeks ago, I had just loaded & was on my way out. Still gota sort out a pint mate, blow the froth off a couple & talk s**t! That is one of the early/early F10s in that pic isn’t it, S plate 1977 was when they first came out to replace the F88 if I.I.R.C.

Chris

Most probably; The one posted was donated through a charity that supplies fire fighting equipment deemed too old for us to rural poor communities. I remember one of tbe last TK pumps served in West Oxon (Charlbury I think). Oily, at the time of the Cook and Boggis fire I’m sure Witney were still using a 1937 Leyland Tiger Cub :open_mouth: The one now at Hanborough Bus Museum.

I can’t remember whether this water bowser served at Eynsham or Slade (Oxford).

Witneys’ 1937 Leyland Cub, now on display at Hanborough Bus Museum. It saw 30 years service at Witney, at the old fire station in Corn Exchange Yard (now Shillbrooks’ art shop) until the new station opened on Welch Way in 1966. I spoke to a retired fireman who remembers it at the Cook and Boggis fire in 1964, and who rode on it in his youth all the way to Coventry during the blitz…from Edgehill near Banbury they could see the glow

Hi Andrew, regarding your pic of the Dawsons rental F10 LFC 777S reminds me of when I used to have a left ■■■■■■ F12 reg no LFC 767S originaly supplied by Dawsons to Cavewood.

One off of Bubblemans’ thread; This was my first full-time motor which needed a major engine overhaul at 6 years old. Ex Priors’ fitter Roy Molloy did an amazing job with it and it went like a new lorry when I got it back.

Benfields of Deddington
This company actualy started in Hook norton before moving to Deddington.
I found this picture on Bubblemans Thread .Which was a great find for me !!! Thanks bubbs

I remember the late Eddie Harrison telling me that some drivers would switch regularly from Benfields to Priors and vice versa. What happened to Benfields?

P.D Hook of Cote near Aston.

There’s a thread on Benfields Transport Deddington thats just been opened on here.

I thought I’d wake up this thread with the news McKennas’ have been bought out by McArdle.
