Know what you mean Bewick, now we know, you were a capitalist Boss, no wonder you were down on those poor old BRS drivers, shame on you.
Cheers Dave.
Bewick, what happened to Croppers of Kendal? They were paper makers I think but did they have their own transport or was it contracted out, perhaps to your namesake in Kendal. — unless you are the very same Bewick of Kendal with ( I think )the red and white wagons.
Do you remember Overland Car Transporters based at Carlisle Airport, this company was owned by the parents of Ray & Grant MacDowell directors of ECM. The Overland Company was bought out by MCD in the 80s, they ran out of Oxford up to ■■■■■■■ and Scotland. They ran Ford Traders, Commer TS3s & had at least one Leyland Super Comet with a Carter 9 car transporter. Old Mac built one of the first tri-deckers out of a converted Carter semi-trailer.

Well Dave my lad you have completely mis-read me !!! If this driver of mine only had 4 nights out in the week he was badly done to !! Also if the wife and I were needing a driver to run us to one of the many functions we had to attend he would drive the Merc ! he loved it ---- but I paid him well "in the hand "plus he got hand made suits off me and Crombie overcoats as-well ! this was on Saturday nights before he went down the road again on Sunday !!He also drove me to many Premier football and Rugby leauge matches at Old Trafford, Wigan and Blackburn when I was a guest of various suppliers ----but he always sat at the same tables in the excetutive dining rooms with me and was always made very welcome by the likes of Scania, Boalloy, ROR,Tasker,Crane Fruehauf,Michelin,B.P. oil ect ect.And you are calling me a Capitalist running Dog !!! I never ever asked any one who worked for me to do anything I wouldn’t do myself --fact1! Anyway that was then this is now Regards Bewick !

Croppers of Kendal are probably the finest paper makers in the UK I worked there from leaving school until I left to pursue other things (trailer mate at Brady’s of Barrow) Croppers did run their own motors they had about 12/14 artics at one time but now they are down to about 3/4 and use various contractors as well with a lot of their Paper going for export .I will take the 5th Amendment on your second suggestion as I couldn’t possibly comment . Regards Buick !!
