When I was a young lad, I like many boys then went to work doing deliveries in London with my dad, in the mid to late 50’s there used to be a company with yellow open back trucks delivering blocks of ice to hospitals, resteraunts etc, there was a lot of them about, this must have been before refidgerators and freezers were available to these establishments, can anyone remember them? if so can you remember the name of the company, I seem to think it was an Italian name on the side of the trucks.

Dear Mick,
I remember them well. The company was called Carlo Gatti. Their last cold store was built at Southall, and it was subsequently taken over by Salvesens. I am an ex Grangewood Transport driver.
