Old Cafe's

Spardo:
No, I don’t mate, not on one of my usual routes from Nottingham I suppose.

I see the Coronation is still there, now called Truckers’ Rest though. I think the name changed when it re-opened.

The Hollies looks really smart now, bet it costs a bomb for parking. Is it open 24/7? I may be passing by there on the way to Carlisle in a few weeks time.

Hollies is still open 24 hrs, not sure of parking charges as it is too near home! Talking about Nottingham I noticed a few weeks ago the cafe at Clifton, next to river by A52/A453,has been demolished, they filmed as scene there for Auf Wiedershein Pet series 2 inside there, another bit of useless information off my chest!

Yes, interesting to see that on Google streets, whereas it’s still there on the satellite picture. Although, perhaps I’ve got the wrong spot, because I thought it disappeared years ago. :unamused:

Might check out The Hollies, it will be a Saturday when I pass by but reckon to get a bit closer to Carlisle before parking up.

Want to get back to Newhaven Sunday evening for the Monday morning boat.

the show was"Dogfood dan and the carmarvan cowboy" or something like that . I remember because I saw them filming many many years ago

‘Dogfood Dan and the Caernarvon Cowboy’, spot on, I have been trying to drag it from the recesses ever since I mentioned it.

One for Punchy Dan, Taylor’s Cafe in Brownhills or also known as Greasy Joe’s,

Wasn’t it “The Carmarthen Cowboy”?

Willoughby Cafe on the A45, still there on left hand side heading towards Braunston just before old Great Central Railway bridge,

In my day known as Tubby’s famed for his greasey vest and crossed eyed cook Sarah.

+Greetings,All. Ref. Tubby’s. We used to stop there in the sixties coming home from Liverpool on nights. The park was always full of,mostly,BRS lorries and us,Union Cartage and some others of ccourse. The liver and bacon was one of my favourites,as well as the Northampton Times to shove up the front of the old Guy Invincible Gardner 150 to get some semblance of heat in the winter.Halcyon days,I’d do it again, they were good times.Regards,900x20.   .

Is that still open, Pete? I always preferred the Coronation Cafe, on the left before it going west, but it closed for a time before re-opening again later.

It was also the scene of a TV play about 2 trunkers from Cardiff and Hull who met every night during a crossover stop and discussed their private lives and the mistresses they had in their respective ‘digs’.

Turned out the ‘mistresses’, unbeknownst to them, were each others wives.

A great story with a little used twist, more enjoyable for me because of knowing so well the location.

Yes the Hollies is still open, been improved a lot, concreted and leveled a lot of the parking area and inside has had a revamp, can you remember this one? On the right hand side on last set of traffic lights going through Brownhills towards Muckley Corner, opposite Charringtons Fuel dump,

My Pal the late Brian Wibberly turned this site into a Restaurant called Hoofbeats in the late '70’s as he was a great harness racing supporter and owner, his best horse was called Anslow Superstar and he also sold a comprehensive range of racing tack from the USA and Australasia, he passed away suddenly in the 80’s and the restaurant was sold and it’s name changed to the Terrace. Cheers Bewick.

Getting on for 30 years- where did all the time go?

Mr ■■■■,
Hope you are keeping well and out of trouble? I have inherited the debt off young Punchy for the supply of one full english breakfast to yourself, if you could let me know which rallies you will be attending next season I will make sure said breakfast is delivered, Thank You

Looking at the recent photos of mr ■■■■ at the speech house , do you really think that he is in dire need of a full english ? tin hat firmly donned , Dave

Now see here, young Rigsby, I’ll have you know that Oily was using a dodgy lens which he usually utilizes for making the Scottish hills look like mountains! As anyone who knows me will tell you, I have the figure of a half-starved racing snake. And If one of you tight bu**ers doesn’t come up with the goods soon I’ll be in danger of succumbing to an extreme case of malnutrition.
As to the very kind offer by Pete, I will let him know which events I intend to attend next year in the hope that a) he doesn’t try to wheedle out of it like SOME on here and b) I manage to last that long without a decent full English inside me.
And I have noticed that when Lurpak manages to spare me an hour, he always makes sure we meet some distance from a decent café.
By the way, just to be quite clear, overpriced cowburgers don’t count as a “Full English”!

Rover Way cafe outside Cardiff docks years ago.
