anybody remember wally’s caff which was inside MIFT trafford park (opposite 3 or 4 shed i think) from late 70s until at least mid 80s? miserable old git but his missus was pleasant, and the grub good, if non-artery friendly
Out for a run today so the wife could do some retail therapy, heading for Livingstone A71 passed a B&B Shotts area feel sure it used to be a transport café/digs 1970s, anyone remember it or have I lost it. . Les.

How appropriate, full of old drivers, I presume?
As a younger lad (on the road in 81) I can mind stopping at the jungle when away wae my dad on the livestock ,but the one I remember well is one at Grantshouse as the company had a large farm there in the 60s for fattening up lambs/sheep and most o the fleet were there for weeks at a time moving sheep around up tae Maxton or over to Lockerbie slaughterhouse anyway …I mind staying there summer hols from school and treated like royalty by the owners,.
Last time I was there was for a wedding (I was not in my teens ) seems all Smiths drivers were invited and my folks treated it as a holiday. If I get back to the UK for a holiday its one o the places I want to visit as it was a real big part o me growing up /being wae my Dad.
You won’t be disapppointed, Jimbo, it is a great place to stop. If ever I get a run north of the borders (I have 2 to cross ) I always arrange to overnight there. With the vehicle I drive now I can make it in one go from Newhaven so will always go for the morning boat.
The first time I went that way in many, many years I didn’t think I could get there before the closing time of 8pm, so phoned in advance and he told me that he would keep a dinner for me until they left at 9.
The Cedars Café I presume.

The Cedars Café I presume.
The very one.
I remember stopping at the boot & shoe pub/cafe on the junction of the A1 A63, you could park on the car park or just a bit up the old A63. It was what it was for the time I suppose.
The old shell garage & cafe on the old A74 north top side of beatock opposite the old quarry entrance.
Had many a night in the Harthill cafe, just off the M8 on the old A8.
I used to like the old Lymm, a bit further down on the left.
The old Evesham vale cafe was the dogs at one point. Until they tried to turn it into a bistro
Walsall Wood on the A461,

Had many a good night myself in the harthill café in the 70s when dave ran it.

The Hollies,circa early 60’s,
Is that still open, Pete? I always preferred the Coronation Cafe, on the left before it going west, but it closed for a time before re-opening again later.
It was also the scene of a TV play about 2 trunkers from Cardiff and Hull who met every night during a crossover stop and discussed their private lives and the mistresses they had in their respective ‘digs’.
Turned out the ‘mistresses’, unbeknownst to them, were each others wives.
A great story with a little used twist, more enjoyable for me because of knowing so well the location.

Yes the Hollies is still open, been improved a lot, concreted and leveled a lot of the parking area and inside has had a revamp, can you remember this one? On the right hand side on last set of traffic lights going through Brownhills towards Muckley Corner, opposite Charringtons Fuel dump,
No, I don’t mate, not on one of my usual routes from Nottingham I suppose.
I see the Coronation is still there, now called Truckers’ Rest though. I think the name changed when it re-opened.
The Hollies looks really smart now, bet it costs a bomb for parking. Is it open 24/7? I may be passing by there on the way to Carlisle in a few weeks time.
