Old brs depot leeds

The other morning i was on route from bradford to leeds on the m621,and i noticed an old warehouse with north eastern british road services painted on it,i had to look twice its near the football ground, anyone got some old stories to tell on this depot :open_mouth:

All I can say about it is the many hours and sometimes days I sat there waiting for a back load.

Would this depot come under the elland road area or for that matter was it on elland road

Yes it was.I was trying to remember the road when you posted. Many thanks.

I went to call in there before the days of cab phones to let warrington depot know the new drop in leeds city centre
would be coming back to the yard as you couldnt get in with a artic :unamused: As i was waiting to turn in i noticed the VW camper coming towards me was well onto my side of the road and the driver was happily looking at anything but where he was going  So into the passenger seat i went and bang went the VW, details swapped and into leeds deopt i went warrington were not to happy about the delivery not being done they were over the moon when i told them the wagon wont be on the Glasgow night trunk either.
Not really a tale about Leeds depot but thats the only time i`ve ever called in there, pass it still and seen the name still up on the sheds.

Before that the BRS depot in Leeds was in Water Lane not far from the railway station, it was on one of the old ways through Leeds and even though I was only very young I can remember going there with my old fella who drove an 8 legger ERF for BRS at York, of course they’ve all gone now.
regards doublereduction.

Yes the BRS depot address was Lowfield Rd which is the road you turn off Elland Road onto.
I was the last Area OPs Manager there, and was later responsible for its closure.
The lease was up, and Leeds United under the umbrella of Leeds Sporting had plans for a sports stadium/swimming pool/casino and that was some 15 years ago - not a lot of progress really then!
The operations were all split mostly all ending up in the Normanton area.

Doublereduction did your dad work for the British Sugar Contract, as when I was at Darlington depot there was usually an 8 legger drop in on a Monday morning driver was Nobby Clarke, this was in the early 70s.

Pass that BRS depot nearly every week its been flattened now, can also remember when General Haulage were at the end of the yard what happened to them?

I always wondered what happened to General Haulage in Leeds.I loaded off them once or twice when it was Sheffield steelworks shut down in summer,1968-69 and things were quiet.Concrete slabs/blocks for Norwich and somewhere else. They used to advertise backloads in Headlight Magazine.

used to backload pop out of leeds. went there for a jump but never found any leads.
