Old Brough truckstop

I stopped on the park at the old Brough truckstop A66 the other night. Nothing there really, but handy for the pub and chippy in town.
I wondered why they closed the cafe and bar down, I know it’s been shut for a while now, but being where it is situated I would have thought it would be a good business if it opened up again with a good kitchen staff and a decent bar, and there is room on there for a few motors.
There is nothing else in that area since the Punchbowl shut, apart from the Stainmore cafe that could also be improved in many ways.

the punchbowl used to be a good spot :grimacing: ■■■■ good food and a pint :grimacing:

guesty44 and myself had one or 2 good nights there

been a few years since i was in stainmore cafe and it was needing a spruce up then but the grub was good n cheap

Why did the punch bowl close down??
I seem to remember it been very busy, must be knocking in nearly ten year now since it closed

It still got a few motors in after it was bypassed, and anybody that didn’t know about it could still see it from the new road, so not sure if that was the reason.
They were nice people in there, I remember one night the bar tv was broken, and the lady let me take my pint in their own living room to watch the football.

The Punchbowl was great I enjoyed it there but always liked Brough too.
Walk up The Castle for a pint and the chippy was decent too. Are the bus people still in the garage at the lorry park or has it all closed down?
Handy to know we can still park there though

The bus people are still there, and you’re supposed to pay £3 for a ticket from the pay and display machine when you park. There is a toilet open overnight, but…Well, let’s just say it’s a “hover job”, and then only out of desperation… :open_mouth:

The Punchbowl shut because the owner retired IIRC. It would indeed have been about 10 years since, as it was not long after I started my current job. In fact, I think that’s why the rest of the Brough set up shut as well, because the guy who had the nightclub upstairs packed up. It was free for ages (no “toilet” then), then started charging a couple of years ago.

I have heard tell the main attraction in the Punchbowl was the pool table after hours…Until her husband set a camera up so he could keep an eye on it…Allegedly…

whats the best colored one to pot last for a nice finnish ?

Pink  , or brown if you were that way inclined

Once the camera went in, most people suddenly got yellow…So they say…sniggers
