Old A40 services

Are they doing them up ? Trundled south through Monmouth the other day in me Asda wagon and noticed they seem to be revamping them, I spent many a night out there back in the late 80’s and it always shut at 22.00 hrs and all lights went out and always slept well as it was pitch black and quiet.

Only stopped there once or twice myself back in the day…But any new stop is worth having as they disappear so regularly now.

Both sides of the road have been cleared and re-developed probably be open next year, expect the usual £4 for a coffee and the usual overpriced tat with little thought given to trucks.

With no facilities between Sternsham and Cardiff Gate there is a golden opportunity which will be missed without doubt.

But there is several eateries along the way though especially from Ross to Monmouth, but those services will I’m sure be very popular.

euro garge arethe ones who will operate them both so exspect parking charges to be through the roof and u will not get anything from it either.

2 large lay byes either side of dual carriageway near M4 (just before - or just after depending on direction) not great facilities (portaloos) but reasonably priced fair to middling food for a one nighter.

They are both frequented by gay men but if you are confident of your own ■■■■■■■■■ then you can have a good non lorry conversation with most of them. There are always exceptions though and you may meet the odd plank :unamused: but hey…in all walks of life.

As said, they’re being operated by EuroGarages…the same people who operate Ross on Wye. The HGV parking there is £14.99, so I can#t see Raglan being any different… it’s on a par for the area, except the cattle market which is a tenner…
The current EG services at Ross houses a Greggs and a Subway, which close early evening, and a 24 hour Spar, all of which are very popular and reasonably priced… The Greggs is cheaper than that at Cardiff West.
It’s highly probable that both new services at Raglan will also take Keyfuels.
