well for me its just workin on your own and being by yourself. working for council on the bin wagons at the mo (hopefully only until the economy picks up), and the amount of bickering and ■■■■■■■■ that goes on between them all just does my head in. i miss the solitude of being on general haulage, i think we are all loners at the end of the day.
also i like driving and radio 2, so what else could i be but a trucker?!
i like the freedom off the road doing what i want to an extent and know one there to ■■■■■ about it. Personally i’ve done factory, office and garage work and i couldn’t go back. All i want now is a perm class 1 job and that’ll be it oh yeah i like not having the missus on at me all day.
getting paid to do what you love to do.
i can’t ask for more than that.
i’ve got A1 boss man,get no ■■■■■ off him, lets me get on with the job myself
i usually organise my own back loads most of the time(although they are getting a bit slack at the mo)
i can sit in with the boss and his family and have the cup of tea or lunch or anything thats going.
i’m with this lad since dec.2000.
i am getting married in May and he gaveme €1,500 to pay for my flight and hotel for my honeymoon and $500 cash.
pretty good or what■■?
we have no vacancies though, just a small company in the West of Ireland
it used to be getting to new places
and on nights out discovering the local brew
now its i,ve been everywhere son
and the local brew comes from 100 mile up the road cos theres no local brewerys
I love the freedom of the open road, I imagine it must be like being a cow boy in the old wild west doing a job in whatever way I choose start/stop when want living on my own initiative avoiding ambushes by the indians (vosa) , diesel rustlers and no one to answer too.
I know it’s not quite like that with mobile phones, sat tracking and tachographs but it is in my imagination
I often think about going and doing something else. But then I think of the past and working amongst people. The bickering, backstabbing and one up manship mentality, oh and having to smile and be nice to folks all the time. (God that last bit sounds terrible)
Then I think it ain’t such a bad job after all.
I enjoy the solitude.
I’m a night trunker now and I love it cos I hardly see anyone when I’m at work.
Getting paid to go for a drive! The good thing about driving the heavies is as willy said I can see over the hedge and this is a beautiful country. I’m never happier than when driving through some beautiful countryside going somewhere new.
to me its freedom, worked ■■■■ hard now have got my dream truck.no big debt just load and go when i want its just a shame the work in europe and the people doin it dunt seem the same.
burning someone else’s diesel (oops edit 1) and rubber … great feeling (oops edit 2) of satisfaction of a job well done and not being shackled to a ball and chain or a desk… and not to mention roaming around our great island
