oil cooler has failed
What ^^^^^^ said
Is it ok to drive or not though as The Boss is not keen to take it off the road ?
The more you use it the more oil leaks into your cooling system via the failed oil cooler. This in turn completely craps up the cooling system and I would imagine it would overheat because the radiator will end up blocked up with emulsified oil . So best get it sorted sooner rather than later
Don’t use it till the oil cooler is done and the cooling system is thoroughly cleaned ,as it will only end up being towed in
I think something similar has happened to one of our XF’s, as the MD found to his cost this morning. Fortunately, it doesn’t show up too much on a black jacket

exactly what these guys said
Thanks for the replies so far but I’m still driving it Boss is tight as a drum so it’s going to be a tow in job with 14 ton of plant on the bed one day soon oh well hourly rate
remember as the cooling system fills up with oil ,there is less in the engine…the cooling system will be harder to clean out ,the radiator may end up impossible to clean,.but it’s your boss’s train set ,just make sure your ■■■ is covered and he doesn’t blame you when it all goes belly up
show him this thread.

that makes a change a daf with cracked cylinder heads (not)
in the past when ive replaced leaking oil coolers i have flushed the cooling system out with a couple of dish washer tablets, good road test ,drain refill water , road test , drain refill water / anti-freeze
Changing the oil cooler is the easy bit. It’s getting the muck out of the system that’s the aggravating and expensive bit. The longer it’s left the more it costs. The problem isn’t going away - it just gets worse.
As everyone else has said, it needs sorting. Something else to bear in mind is the oil leaks into the coolant because it runs at a much higher pressure. That oil is pressurising the cooling system way above what it should. You’ll start to see a horrible mess appearing from the header tank cap soon.
If he can’t afford to repair it now, he certainly won’t be able to if you carry on driving it in that condition.
I’d start looking for a new job, if I were you.
enjoy…
this was at exlby services southbound on the A19, i knew what had happened because i found the problem day before at barnsley but was on a four dropper so decided to finish of my duties so to speak, my last drop was middles borough the following day, things thickened up during the night and she over heated after tipping at middlesborough, i stripped all the pipes off in the services and bunged a load of shampoo(yes for your hair) and other cleaning products in the system, bless the old lass, she ran hot but i managed to get back to daf at scunny
got it done partially under warranty as the oil cooler was 15 months old - the first time it went i ended up replacing every hose on the engine as the oil rots the pipes from within, after two hose failures(and consequent loss of earnings) i bit the bullet and changes every hose. after the second cooler failed i took them all off and cleaned them by hand!! that was a ball ache!
forgot to say - wait until you find gearbox oil in your header tank! thats expensive!!

half a day too change the oil cooler and clean the coolant system out with a degreaser solution ( and not head n shoulders before you ask lol ) on that engine compared too a day n maybe a bit more with the paccar engine, gotta jack it, disconnect some of the engine mountings, unbolt half the side out of the engine the be a contorsenist too get it out and put the new one in.
I often find washing up liquid to be better than some of the degreasers.
