Oh Goody

Well that will make cyclists take more care and not ride around like they own the roads eh :unamused:

At what point do we say that ‘cross party’ activism is a corruption of the democratic process. As it stands the government are using a Conservative mandate to impose the worst types of extreme so called ‘Left’ and Green Party policies. In this case giving cyclists carte blanche to over/undertake turning traffic through junctions and possibly even reversal of all normally accepted priorities. On the basis of give way to cyclists in all cases regardless of what signs and road markings say.Like unrealistic speed limit reductions, with the obvious intention of criminalising innocent drivers as part of a political agenda.

That’ll work well in London/major city, could be stuck at lights for about an hour before finally not having to give priority…

Silly idea imo. It’ll only make cyclists think they have carte blanche priority all over the place, assume drivers have seen them at all times and forget that element of hazard perception (if they have it in the first place) and common sense.

I was rather disappointed in this proposal
“All police forces should ensure that evidence of common offences submitted by cyclists, or other witnesses, using bike or person mounted cameras or smart phones is put to use, and not ignored”
Clearly expecting cyclists to provide evidence is putting undue responsibility onto them, surely it would make much more sense if the cyclist’s word was good enough and treated as indisputable evidence.

Seriously though, if that proposal gets the thumbs up it will also undoubtedly extend to any motorist with a dashcam, now I am all for the police considering video evidence of highly dangerous / extreme driving offences, but compelling the police to act upon ‘common’ offences captured on helmet cameras / dashcam etc? for instance; have a sip of water out of a bottle or a trailer wheel crosses a double white and Mr vigilante dashcam hero can get you 3 points and a £100 fine ? It paints a very disturbing future.

It worked for the ■■■■’s on their ‘Report you neighbour’ policy.

What would happen if the cyclist in pic2 of that article was knocked off his bike by someone turning left, there’s a clearly marked cycle lane with stop lines which would prevent this happening but he’s using the carriageway
