Offer of contract work through agency

I received a phone call tonight asking would I be interested in taking 3 month contract job on through them. I asked who and what it was and got told “I can’t tell you that, all I can tell you is that it is 4 days on 3 off each week on a rota and is paying £470, 4 shifts of 12 hours either 4 till 4, 5 till 5 or 6 till 6”. So I said how the hell could I make a decision based on that when you wont even tell me who it’s for !!!

Anyway, I got off the phone and got to thinking. I could have a number of jobs, I have a big company ringing me asking me to work for them (I’ve mentioned them on here and posted pics before but don’t want to name them individually here). I also know that there are jobs coming up in another big company with great pay and conditions but I’m not allowed to mention that either, but all I’m thinking now is that after accidently being on the agy since September, I’ve been paid better than anywhere by a fair bit too, I have so much freedom to come and go. The downsides are that there isn’t always work (but they will make sure they spread the work around each driver so we all get a fair crack of the whip), sometimes starting at 1.30am and sometimes starting at 16:30pm (within the same 7 to 14 days). I think however that I’m going to stay with what I’m happy doing at them moment, even though it’s not a solid stable job. I know some of you would take the ‘proper’ job but I don’t see the problem with how it’s working for me at the moment !

There’s a reason they won’t tell you mate, it’s obviously a crap job.

Turn it down, if it was a really good job they’d be shouting their heads off the name of whoever it is.

its true. havent you noticed that they always say ‘blue chip company’ rather than mention tesco?

3663, P&H or brakes… :unamused: days… :open_mouth:

My mate (who is also on the agency and been called about the same deal) thinks it’s a company who’s name escapes me as I’d never heard of them but they are based in the old suttons depot in St Helens !:?:!?:?!:?

Drapers?

Another 3 month or 12 week contract then you move on and someone else comes in so they don’t have to pay more money.

Yes that is about the size of it isn’t it. I don’t think I will be bothering ! The agency work is there in my opinion to take the good things like working when you want and a bit of variety, if I wanted to work for a firm on a set job then I could quite easily walk into one that I chose to work for. I don’t see the point of working for a specific company (no matter who they are) that is through an agency when I can work direct for better companies.

^^That sounds pretty sensible to me
