Muckaway:
I wonder what would happen if cars had speed recorders?
i have a tracker in my car (think norwich union young drivers scheme), it can tell me what speed, and where on the road i was, it can also tell me weather the ingnition in on or off, it dosn’t bother me a i pay for the fuel in the tank, and the less i use, the more money i have for me to use at my leasure.
i can see it would pi$$ off company car drivers, as they will feel that there being spyed apon, (just like truck drivers), and that the company would know, what the company’s cars were doing during work hours and after work hours.
Why do drivers want to drive over the speed limit anyway, it’s too late to wish you could turn the clock back after you’ve been involved in an accident. No matter who is at fault your tacho will show you were speeding & you’ll have to accept what’s coming to you.
Muckaway says he chose to take the points instead of losing a day of his holidays to take the course & keep his licence clean. Sorry but I don’t understand why someone would choose to do that, they may live to regret it should they be caught again or if the licencing authority decides to tighten up on applicants with traffic offences at licence renewal time. No employer is going to reward a driver for breaking the law & certainly won’t recognise a drivers choice to accept points on his/her otherwise clean licence.
We’ve got drivers running with us who drive like complete idiots but think they’re the mutts nuts, sorry but these chaps are their own best advert & I wouldn’t give one of them a job.

Actually I think Muckaway used tact here…the law won’t change in an adverse way and lets face it…by going on the course it could have cost him over £100 and he’s lost a day of leave…he chose to take a few points which will be spent after a few years and slightly higher insurance.

Kind of…but vector refers to direction, which doesn’t have anything to do with it…but yes, that was the basic point I was making
Vectors not only describe direction but also magnitude.
And direction DO have something to do with this: you can be killed if vector of your speed will stay in the same direction, but it’s magnitude (which is, in our case speed value, sorry I am having some translation problems with that, I hope you folllow me) will be changed suddenly, or if the magnitude will stay the same, but direction will change sharply, or when both of this happen at once
So: in first case, you were travelling 70 mph then you hit something and now you are doing only 2mph. You’ll be propably killed.
In second case: you are travelling 70 mph on your scooter then you hit some giant lorry going opposite way and now you are still doing 70mph, but this time backwards.
The third case is when you were doing 70 mph than you hit the lorry and now you are heading 48mph towards that bushes on the left

What about case 4 when you’re hit from an angle of 45 degrees in front of you a 70 and you go backwards to the left into a building?
some of us arnt on hourly rate so time spent poncing about and spinning the day out just means a longer working day and less money per hr worked and quite often another 45 break before going home which in turn means later finishing time therefore later start the next day so then your behind from the off
i am not saying speeding is ok evrywhere but get a grip
theres nowt worse than running out of time 10 mins from base!..mind someone on here is bound to think its better to stop out where you carnt have a shower,s…t,shave, sleeping in a lay by with the cab rocking abut all night but not me!!

The speed limit are also very rigid while situation on the road is not.
For example: there is speed limit due to a playing ground nearby. I don’t expect too many kids playing there at 4 am, so I think there will be no harm done if I go 40 as in the whole village instead of 30 as I should go in the vincinity of this play ground…
But common sense should be applied both ways. When there is 40 but I see a group of school children on the pavement, I will always slow down well below 40…
going by what i heard today its the speed of the car that causes the increase of lift of an object hit ie. a person the faster the car the higher the body will roll upwards into the air and thus the head falling first onto the tarmac,
i think what the course was pointing out is the law understands that most people dont speed intentionally its alot of factors one being concentration, etc…thats why it offers you this chance to learn why you were speeding and the things that contributed to your mistake,…but sadly there are still drivers of all class of vehicles including cycles who think its fun.
oh by the way it wasent you that i seen almost get side swiped into the hard shoulder last week by a budgens truck, the unit had the same blue R motif on the drivers door
You think it makes people speed less then the course? Bull! I got nabbed by a Gatso, my fault, Im human, 4am in the morning tired, no proper sleep the day before a night shift. I honestly thought I wasnt speeding. But hay, I ask to see when it was last Calibrated, little village in the middle of nowhere. Er NO we dont give that information out UNLESS you want to take it to court and risk a grands worth of a fine and COSTS. Its putting a gun to your head and it stinks. Easy money.
Isnt it very interesting that the amount of off-duty Coppers nabbed by them that get off scott free ?

no i dont think the course would make anyone speed less thats not what i said, it simply points out the reasons just like the ones you have just admitted to you admit 4 reasons why you got caught then moan you got caught the course saved me points not money not time just points and driving tired is stupid whether that be day or night,
i got flashed because the road i was on was 50mph A5 went to a single carrigeway i slowed to 45/6 thinking it wouldnt flash but i was wrong and now i had to pay up for my own stupidity if you wasent speeding then why did it nab you its only easy money if you havent learnt and do it again

Thats good to know. So now only I have to estimate speed in which the person hit will do full 360 degree turn and will fall back on his/her legs and we are all safe
Most of my driving consists of toddling about on country lanes and narrow roads,so I dont get much chance to speed. There are times however when I am driving in the evenings or early mornings in cities.Yhe main problem that I see or dont see is pedestrians wearing dark clothes without a care in the world, can they be sent on a course?

nah just flatten them there probably upto no good anyway
You live in the real world Dusty? If you asked how many drivers do drive when tired at some point or other when driving in a day/week I bet the majority would say yes they do. What do you do out of interest if you tired before a shift, refuse to drive?
Yes I admit I was tired, yes it nabbed me, but shouldnt I have been given the chance to see if the Gatso was in correct working order and giving a correct speed indication without the threat of a major fine? If it was correct, fair cop, I was wrong but I like countless others will never know because I couldnt take the chance of a grands worth of a fine. I would have gladly paid any admin costs to process the documents/certification of the Gasto just to know that I WAS speeding, I will never know now if the camera was correct or indeed still is for other road users passing along that road.

being tired is one thing but being so tired you blamed it on getting a speeding ticket which in turn means your drive at that point was probably very poor, as for me if am tired i take a break its that simple this attempt to side track your point is futile you got caught took a tissy fit blamed the world if you were that convinced am sure you would of persued the claim for the calibration and so on.
and the real world as you put it is it cost you money, whats the question about tired at the start of a shift got to do with anythink this hole thread was to do with a course on speed awareness and its contents and your first reply was assuming we all thought the course would slow people down followed by bull! then a written confession that you got nabbed because you were ill equipped and finished off contradicting yourself by denying you did any wrong or the gatso must be broken, i think the real world must suggest you dont no your ■■■ from your elbow
Get real son we all have lapses of judgement when we are tired and you are no diffrerent, I was explaining my own circumstances, not changing the thread.
Very poor driving? Well 35mph was what it said I got nabbed at in a 30, hardly going hell for leather was I? Moreover, I’m not denying I didnt do wrong a because I wont know for sure so I’ve not confessed to anything apart from being flashed by a camera that, MAY be wrong or right. Were am I condtradicting myself, I said I got nabbed, I didnt say i was speeding, I may have been speeding, but on the other hand I may have not, this is the point.
Ok the thread is about a speed awareness course and yes I do think its bull and doesnt stop people speeding, my opinion and I’m entitled to it. My point is its the process of how/when you are caught the disclosure of evidence that is wrong, I’m side tracking nothing here the two points are interconnected because this is one of the reasons as to why you may have chosen the course. You either tip up or go on the course or risk and this is the point, why should it be a risk go to court, the camera is either right or it isnt. If it is set correctly whats the problem, I’m in the wrong so I pay up or take the points or do the course. I’m side tracking nothing, these are issues that bring people to the course because they have a much more expensive fine involved, IF the camera is correct. Why should there be any doubt in the matter? No there shouldnt be and that is my point regarding the speed awarness course.
listen junior if the machine is correct or the plod caught you your gripped and unless your absolutely adament you wasent speeding then thats when i certainly would contest the decision, but after being on the course myself it saved me getting 3 points. the course wont stop everyone speeding but it educates the few, we as drivers no the consequences of our driving good or bad but the joe public who also attend no very little, the course in my eyes only helped me avoid points but to some of the people that attended it may save them from re-offending or actually killing a person though i doubt it myself.
i was thinking this is just another money spinner until i seen the amount of numpty’s in there, i would say its more of a warning to them and a realisation of how there actions can dramatically change a situation on the road, after sitting there for 4 hours it really did dawn on me that the average driver hasent a scooby, i did ask the question to the group why they sat in the middle lane and not 1 new they were doing anythink wrong, i could go on about the negatives of the course but after witnessing what i did i think its still better than points.
