Of all the places to load

Gotta load Lydney ,Gloucester.Told load ready at 1500hr friday. when the old cheltenham festival is on. Now i’m in leeds , what time is good to pass J9/10/11 M5 tomorrow? When they’re all in there blowing their cash!

I’d be surprised if you had any problems at all with Cheltenham traffic, but alternatively you could come off the M5 onto the M50, then onto the A449 to Newport, slightly longer time wise but no bridge fare either

Depending what you’re driving, you could always come off the M5 at the M50, take the 1st exit off and trundle down to Gloucester that way. Get to the A40 ( Glos ring road ), turn right and pick up the A48 ( I think… ) for Lydney. Not sure about low bridges though…

When I used to be on the drays Cheltenham was pretty much bolloxed all day from 7am when the Festival was on… Best plan is always to avoid if possible…

A lot longer I would say, most traffic from the North will come off at j10 just carry on to j11
It won’t be too bad.

You will be fine you won’t catch any of the traffic just look at the last time on the race card in your morning paper.

Come off at 11 I think it’s the first gloucs turning following the signs for Chepstow and you will be fine.

come down to j11 then a40 then a48 were are you going

Yes its quite a bit longer actually.

M5/A48 - 34.7miles
M5/M4 etc - 59.8miles
M50/etc - 82miles

Alternatively you could use the A38 down to Glos from Tewkesbury missing out the M5 altogether as far as Cheltenham traffic concerned, though I’ve not driven that one for yonks, can’t remember any restrictions etc.

14’ 3" bridge on the A48 :bulb:

Gold Cup day tomorrow first race about 13.30 so will be very busy so leave it until after midday should be clearing by then, but if earlier you could go down M50 to J2 follow A417 to glos turn right at ringroad you will pick up A48 to lydney signed for Chepstow ,lowest bridge is 14,3

There’s not been that much disruption for the first 3 days. Most of the Southbound traffic is turned off at Junction 9 (Tewkesbury) Failing that they’ll come down to Junction 10. Worst time will be 11:00 - 13:00 but even then the outer two lanes keep moving.

You need Junction 11 and turn right for Gloucester. Then stay on the A40 (Signed Ross on Wye) Once you’re over the river bridges you’ll bear left at the A48 roundabout So long as you’re UNDER 14’ 3" There’s about three bridges some level some arched which must be taken in the middle of the road. All will make you duck.

If you’ve any doubts about your height stay on the A40 for about 7 miles towards Ross on Wye until you come to Huntley.
Here turn left onto the A4136 signed Monmouth, go through Mitcheldean and past the Cinderford turn off staying on the A4136.
In a big dip in the road turn left onto the B4234 signed Lydney and follow it all the way.

Thanks guys, im pulling a fridge, normal height, can get under 4.01m at Caen,so 14"3. Shouldnt be a problem.? En route now at east mids airport ish.

Euro spec fridges and tilts are OK, I’ve pulled both down the A48. Just remember to stay in the marked areas going under the arched bridges. They are in dips and on bends but DO NOT pull over for anyone :smiling_imp: Be prepared to stop is necessary but don’t cross the white line.

Used to go that way with the fridges when I was on for Bryans. You shouldn’t have any problems
