Ok so today I had a conversation with the gaffer that left me puzzled. He’s been on about me upgrading my ■■■■ size from class 2 to class 1. So far so good.
He said he had spoken to the lady at the training school he uses and wanted to know when I passed my class 2 as I might have to take the theory test again for my Class 1…
I thought that LGV theory test was the same so you only needed to do it once. I think him and the training school lass have got themselves mixed up in knots.
Passed mods 1234 in September 2009 if that makes a difference…

They’re both talking nonsense and I’m sure someone will be along shortly to confirm it.
As far as I’m aware you couldn’t do the LGV theory again now if you wanted to.
Correct.
You do the HGV Theory once at Class 2 stage.
The confusion usually arises as the Theory pass only lasts for 2 years - so you must pass the Class 2 practical test within this period or start from the beginning and take the Theory again.
Once you have your full Class 2 under your belt, practical and all, there is simply no more Theory tests to take - so therefore no time limits or whatever else.
Just to emphasise the point, I passed my D1 test in 2002 (both theory and practical), and then took (and passed) my D test earlier this year. I didn’t have to re-do the theory test.
I have never done a theory test, for that mater I have never even taken a class 2 test
Should get them thinking when I finally get my class 1 (next test)
I have a question as I’m not a lorry driver: why do so many people refer to HGV Class 2 and Class 1 when the licence has been LGV Category C and C+E since 1992?
Surely 23 years is long enough to adopt the current terminology?

For reference, I was 15 in 1992.
For me it’s just habit 50 this month and I suppose dyslexia
Same reason some people call a length of 100mmx50mm timber 4×2. They just feel more comfortable with it. Way it was done for years and your new fangled terminology doesn’t make a blind bit of difference.

Besides, you were 27 in 1992, so have had longer as C+E than Class 1
