Odd Question. I'm feeling thick tonight

Ok so today I had a conversation with the gaffer that left me puzzled. He’s been on about me upgrading my ■■■■ size from class 2 to class 1. So far so good.

He said he had spoken to the lady at the training school he uses and wanted to know when I passed my class 2 as I might have to take the theory test again for my Class 1… :open_mouth:

I thought that LGV theory test was the same so you only needed to do it once. I think him and the training school lass have got themselves mixed up in knots.

Passed mods 1234 in September 2009 if that makes a difference…

Always thought once you did it that was it :open_mouth:

They’re both talking nonsense and I’m sure someone will be along shortly to confirm it.

As far as I’m aware you couldn’t do the LGV theory again now if you wanted to.

Thats because a real driver shortage would happen due to failure rate.

Correct.
You do the HGV Theory once at Class 2 stage.
The confusion usually arises as the Theory pass only lasts for 2 years - so you must pass the Class 2 practical test within this period or start from the beginning and take the Theory again.

Once you have your full Class 2 under your belt, practical and all, there is simply no more Theory tests to take - so therefore no time limits or whatever else.

You may be right to

That’s what I thought! Threw me a real curve ball, and I was just too busy to check yesterday ( the joys of turning 30…)

I’m must say although I’m sure I could pass it again without issues, I’m must confess I’m glad I don’t have to

Assessment drive booked in, just got to do that then try and learn to play with the big boys toys…

Thank you to all who answered. It’s great to wake up to a definitive answer!

Just to emphasise the point, I passed my D1 test in 2002 (both theory and practical), and then took (and passed) my D test earlier this year. I didn’t have to re-do the theory test.

Your boss wants you to get a ■■■■■ enlargement ?

If so I bought some pills advertised in an email recently from this guy. I’ll let you know how I get on.

I have never done a theory test, for that mater I have never even taken a class 2 test
Should get them thinking when I finally get my class 1 (next test)

Cheers Terry, I’ll tell Gaff, he might want to save some money if your pills can achieve the same effect…

Drifty, I wonder, do you need to do a theory test then? Or do you get away with it as you are clearly…erm…experienced??

Straight into a few lessons then the test
The bonus of being an old ■■■■ and taking my class 3, 29 years ago

I have a question as I’m not a lorry driver: why do so many people refer to HGV Class 2 and Class 1 when the licence has been LGV Category C and C+E since 1992?

Surely 23 years is long enough to adopt the current terminology?

For reference, I was 15 in 1992.

For me it’s just habit 50 this month :frowning: and I suppose dyslexia

Fair enough, but would’ve thought that people who have only known the current terminology would use it more

Same reason some people call a length of 100mmx50mm timber 4×2. They just feel more comfortable with it. Way it was done for years and your new fangled terminology doesn’t make a blind bit of difference.

Next!

The very phrase ’ class 1 driver ’ sticks in the mind easily. Because these license holders are driving Gods.

CE doesn’t do us justice. Class 2 drivers are a poor second. Which is why they are identified with a ’ 2 '.

Besides, you were 27 in 1992, so have had longer as C+E than Class 1
