Hi again,
If you obtain an Operator CPC, do you still need to get a Driver’s CPC if you were to drive one of the trucks in the fleet of what you hold the operating licence for?
Cheers!

Yes
Thank you. Although it does seem a little strange but nevermind, the law is the law.
it is strange, but probably because of the similarities in the name there will be a lot of confusion !
You might find that some operators CPC courses will also give you credits towards the driver CPC. Because there is a fair bit of overlap. But you would have to check this with the training company. The course would have to be JAUPT approved (whatever that means, but they say it a lot!)

Hi Helen,
Since you asked…
JAUPT = Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training
You can read all about it here: http://www.drivercpc.org/en/
No, no, please, I didn’t ask! Spare me the torture! I’ll be good! Honest(ish).

Hi Helen,
It seemed that you might not have known what it means, so it was almost a question.
I wouldn’t advise reading that link to anybody other than the most inquisitive insomniac.

Much easier to look up Quango, Bingo and Gongo, also look up the definition of “Jobs for the Boys”
The idea is good, the nature of the organisation and costs involved are ridiculous
so… what about my c.p.c then ? its one of those proper ones , you know the ones that get you an o licence . does that get me credit towards my dcpc ? ( i always think of damp proof course when i say that )
p.s i took it in i think 1994 if that helps … friggin ell dont time fly when you get old …

Hi bowser,
The OCPC came out many many years before the DCPC, and there are two completely separate awarding bodies involved. The OCPC has no connection with the DCPC.
Confusion may arise from the fact that both qualifications are called “CPC” and the fact that some OCPC providers have registered their courses with JAUPT in order that candidates might gain DCPC hours.
Unless a course has been specifically written for DCPC, anybody taking any other kind of course should check whether the course they’re taking has the possiblity of gaining DCPC hours because that is NOT automatic and there may be an extra cost.
You and I might feel a bit miffed about our OCPCs not counting towards DCPC, but consider that I’ve also taught more than 1,000 hours of DCPC, and I still haven’t got a single DCPC hour logged on my DCPC account at DVLA.
cheers DD i had an idea it wouldnt , clutching at straws i think . guess i’m going to have to bite the bullit one day and just do it …

You can drive that truck as long as it not being used for commercial use, so you may well get away with it if they stop you while it is empty

You are so naughty Wheelnut!
Wouldn’t they wonder why you’ve got a batch of POD’s in the cab? And ask you how you could afford to drive a truck around ‘for the love of it’? And why the vehicle was specified on an O licence? Also (I am sure somebody will correct me where I go wrong) I think perhaps you wouldn’t have a tacho in if you were outside the scope of drivers hours rules - you’d be exempt possibly?
